2015 New Tacoma Redesign...

People must just love paying more for fuel than hi test, so go for the diesel.

 

Technically, yes paying more per gallon. However, since diesels typically get 30% better fuel economy compared to their gasoline counterparts, no, diesel is cheaper.

And I'm only comparing fuel prices, not the obvious greater upfront cost of the diesel.

 

For towing or hauling heavy loads it's diesel all the way. Otherwise for me the 20-30% better mileage is offset by 20-30% higher cost per gallon. Then there's the substantial up front cost and higher maintenance, especially with the new low emission diesels.
A combination of direct injection engine and more efficient transmission delivering 24 mpg for me would be great, and a diesel pushing 30 mpg for the haulers. Win win.

 

They're getting $5/gallon for Diesel? That's 25% more, assuming $4/gallon for gas.
For the most part, Diesel even here in SoCal is about the same as premium, sometimes $0.10 more.
Any station that's charging $4.40 for Diesel is not selling much.

 

When I last filled my diesel containers (for the tractor) it was $4.55. I recall the prices a week or so ago over 25% spread; $3.49 regular / $4.49 diesel. They typically sell 89 for .15 more and 93 for another .15 so premium was probably $3.79.
Diesel is always high in the winter around here, other times of the year it may be only 20% over. It's been a long, long time since I've seen diesel only 15% over gasoline in this area.

 

Yet right now, Chevron is at $4.05 for 87, $4.15 for 89, $4.25 for 91.... and $4.09 for #2 (they don't sell #1 in this market).

 

Wow sure varies by market.

 

You're likely still on Diesel #1 for winter, which is more costly than #2.
You also have heating oil competing for the same raw materials.

Here in SoCal, Diesel is rarely more than a dime higher than 91, but it varies through the year as supplies vary.
Honestly, I'm surprised it's lower than 89 right now... it's been a while since Diesel was this low.

 

Isnt it about time to drop this thread and start one for the redesign 2016 tacoma? I hear its getting a diesel with 13 spd auto tranny and front and rear lockers.

Now that GM is actually going to produce a decent mid-sized pickup, the old version of the Colorado was a real POS, and Nissan redesigning the Frontier; Toyota needs to get off their ass and get a really good redesign out. The 2005-14 version of the Tacoma is a great truck but the design is just simply dated now.

I love my 2005 Taco but am eying up one of those new Colorado's. I won't be in the market to replace it until mid-2016 and would really like to have a competitive Tacoma to consider. However Toyota has gotten arrogant with the success of this truck and neglected the line IMO. If they don't put out a new product soon Chevy, and probably Nissan, is going to eat their lunch. Hell even Ford might grow a brain and bring the "Global" Ranger to the US...

 

im with you too. I mean, I have had 3gens of tacomas, my last one was 2005.. which I sold yrs ago. now I want another and for the first time Im looking at the stupid Colorado. idk if its a pos , but like every manufacturer - even the domestics are nice.
I hate the 4runner looks, and love the jeep Cherokee ? - I find myself lost
stupid Toyota cant get us any relief. if they don't act soon - like this year they will loose a lot of folks cause nobody wants a stale taco.. esp since this beast is long overdue ! get off your ass toyototta.

You said it right brother...even now I wonder if it wouldn't be better to wait for the diesel Frontier (nissan) than wonder what the heck Toyota is going to do.

 

i love my new 6.2L GMC Sierra! it's faster than my Sc'd tacoma and gets better MPG.

 

I heard it will feature naturally aspirated twin superchargers, 8 spd dual clutch, and full air ride.

 

Funny: the new Colorado sure takes a lot of styling cues from the Tacoma, at least to my eye; fwiw
It'll be interesting to see what their 2.8 turbo diesel is like.

 

Toyota have been making plenty of spiffy diesels for other markets for years; even turbos.
Maybe they'll be forced to compete here now.....????

 

For a truck that they seem to be playing it safe with, I doubt Toyota will bring a diesel anytime soon. Then again with Dodge (RAM) offering a diesel in the 1500 and Chevy putting one in the Colorado there is something to be said about letting others test the waters first.

Well by the time Toyota is done with this redesign they may be offering a Fusion Reactor in the next gen Taco...
