I ran your numbers quickly and made a few assumption points on fuel costs and fuel pricing and came up with you purchasing approximately 1,041 gallons of fuel (@ $3.65/gallon). If you swapped out your Tacoma with a vehicle that averaged 35 MPG, you'd save roughly $2,050.00/year.

A Nissan Versa S is about $12,500 OTD and would be about $350/mo over 3 years @ 0%. It'd drop significantly if you wanted to extend the terms even if you paid interest. Granted you'd be losing money in the deal, but when you factor in tire wear, maintenance, etc. It's something to consider.

Back when I was worried about the stability of my job, I had interviewed at a few places north of Boston which would have been hundreds of miles over the course of the week. I looked into buying (at the time) a Nissan Versa 1.6L base model. It was $9,999 at the time, no radio, no ABS, no AC (an option I would have added), but the math worked. Plus there was something that was really appealing to me about a completely basic, no frills car that I didn't have to worry about getting beat up.

FWIW I use my discover card for just about everything and depending on the month I get anywhere from 60 to 90 dollars back in cash as part of their rewards program.

Interesting, and thanks. I have tossed around the idea of getting a DD, but i wouldn't get rid of the truck which i need for work because i am a carpenter. Right now i am a employee and the company provides me with a work van, so another vehicle would not be necesary. I barley put any miles on my truck. Buuttt, i go back and forth with full time self employment and being a employee while doing side jobs for myself and a friend. I need a truck to haul material, but not everyday. Eventually i want the tacoma to be my second vehicle but it depends where i end up with work. I may need a fullsize truck, or i may need a fuel effecient car to get me to the other side of the state where the money is. :notsure:

Why? I'd rather have a credit car that gives me cash rewards. I wouldn't want to be tied to one particular company for my rewards, especially any one car company. Just my $0.02...

Has nothing to do with it. I wouldn't get a Ford, GM, Dodge or Toyota credit card. I'm not a brand fanboy, I buy what I like at the time.

the only thing that would sucks though getting a full size is you would be using more gas than your Tacoma

I don't disagree with you. Once I finish off purchasing what I want to get, I'm sure I'll be looking into a different Visa/MC (since AmEx isn't accepted everywhere unfortunately). I'll probably look for a cash back type card for this go round.

The Toyota card only gives me $0.01 per $1 spent, unless I'm at a dealer. My Subaru card is $0.03 per $1 spent.

Don't forget the insurance, excise tax, and maintenance for the extra vehicle.

I do the same with my AMEX. I put everything I can on it, if my bank let me pay my mortgage I would do that too. I pay in full every month and get cash back. 5% on gas, groceries and pharm. and 1% on everything else.

I did my taxes through H&R and I payed with my Discover card, got 15% back. They have a shop discover program where they have a list of retailers, all with different cash back percentages.

Same here. I put most of the stuff I buy on my CC, and pay it off at the end of the month.

I used to have a cash back card. After a couple of years I used the rewards on it to buy something that went "bang" and switched to an LL Bean card. I shop there pretty frequently, and the coupons come in handier than the slow buildup of a big cash amount.

Fucking A. I have no desire to be at work today. With the forecast that we have for this weekend it's making it worse.

    X2.
I'm planning on indoor chores this weekend. Supposed to rain tomorrow, and then snow tomorrow night and Sunday morning, then switch back to rain sometime mid-day on Sunday and rain for the rest of the day.
I'm sure Monday will be bright and sunny, with clouds shaped like hands flipping the bird.

Forcast is lame. Have some maintenance to do on my truck (plugs, oil, air filter, lube drive shaft), tape off the spare room to paint for the giblet, and go look for a daybed to replace the dogs nasty old king size bed in the spare room.

I get to patch drywall this weekend... ugh. I guess it's good that it'll be raining, it'll force me to stay inside and get it done.
