Don't see you saying any technical information in this conversation and seeing as I've owned 8 vehicles including motorcycles/na/turbo I feel like I have a well round of how they accept oil.

Edit: I've also lived in kc the entire time and have been working on cars for 13 years+. Couldn't give you an exact timeline when I started.

not trying to be a dick man, but I had my first vehicle longer than you've been driving, had over 300k miles on it and never had an issue (10w-30 conventional). You speak like you have decades of experience, all I can think is, why have you gone through so many vehicles? Multiple vehicles over a short period of time actually does not provide a good test sample for such definitive statements. You don't have them long enough to see any long term effects.

 

Cause I like change? I got bored? I never said 10w would screw over an engine did I? I said I believe a 0 is better and to each their own.

 

i'm not trying to tell anyone what to use or act like I know anything, I'm just trying to point out that he has very limited experience yet is talking like he knows everything.

Edit: not so much that he knows everything, but that he tried to make it seem like he's been doing it longer than he actually has. Just trying to put his actual length of experience into perspective.

 

That is weird. Have you tried running a higher octane?

 

Where did I say I know everything? Please point that out to me? I said what my knowledge was and was trying to leave it at. But I was being asked questions.

I was under the impression the higher altitude the higher grade you were supposed to run (in order to get rid of the knock that comes with lower grade and less dense air)? Maybe your fuel system needs cleaning. There's a multitude of small things that could cause that issue I think.

I wasn't ever trying to put a "time length" to it but 8 years of reading and research does add up. I really am not trying to tell anyone to run anything but if you are going to ask me I will tell you.

I really wasn't trying to say you were wrong. When I read your statement I expected to look at your age and you be at least 30. When I was 23 I still had my first car, so generally, unless they wrecked them all, most people at your age have only owned one or two cars.

 

In the next few years a new viscosity oil is gonna pop up, 0w-16 from either Mobil 1 or penzoil (can't remember which)
