The strip is Ok, but the best things to get pictures of would be the big water show (in front of the something or other hotel),the mini Eiffel Tower, and the stratosphere (hotel).
And the M&M store is pretty impressive (if you like m&m's)

Yeah, be very careful where you go if you take side streets, there's some places down by the stratosphere that are a little sketchy.

Personally i wouldn't quit a job to jump into schooling, i'd scale back to part time, and try the schooling.
