Uninstalled Mud Flaps...Regrets?

I would agree with everyone that says the truck looks better without them, and am considering removing mine on my new rig. For those of you who have removed them, what has your experience been? Did it cost you dings, etc.? Regrets? End up putting them back on?

Im thinking off for summer, and then back on for winter. If anyone has some aftermarket ones they might suggest, it would be greatly appreciated! These things are HUGE!

 

I trimmed mine. I still have the protection of the flaps without all that ugly.

 

I haven't had any issues with dings or road junk since I removed mine. They look really stupid driving down the road...highway speeds-forget about it. And they are a pain in the ass when off roading.

There was a thread last night about the clear bra stuff you can put on your rockers and some other ideas about mud flap deletes.

 

Didnt notice all the rock dings until I took off the side steps. Got too many to count now. no worries though at some point I'm going to rhino line my rocker panel

 

took mine off the day i got my taco supreme, 1200 miles later the paint is fresher than a newborns ass.

 

I took off the front flaps but after spending last weekend driving gravel roads (which I'll be doing more of during hunting season) I'm going to trim a few inches off and put them back on. If I drove nothing but pavement I would take all four off.

 

took my front ones off 2 months ago due to lift and bigger tires, I have since noticed a few little rock chips on my passenger door. I liked the protection the mud flaps gave me when they were on, but due to rubbing, I had to pull them off. I may trim them and put them back on, but I like the way it looks without it. I left the rears on for courtesy to other drivers as to not kick up rocks on their cars.

 

no regrets... looks 100% better IMO

 

i trimmed 3 inches off my fronts, looks way better. i leave them on since the winters here suck and the DPW dumps so much salt on our roads.

trimmed 4 inches off of the front flaps. used cardboard and a sharpie to scribe the shape of the flap and after cutting the cardboard re-scribed the shape 4 inches higher up on the flap and then cut with a pair of tin snips. all done while laying on the ground, no need to take them off to cut imho. the fronts now match the backs for same height off the ground

 

Took mine off ages ago, so far haven't had any real chips in the side.

 

I live and drive on alot of dirt/gravel roads. On my last truck, it looked like the lower part of the truck had been sandblasted within 5 years. I've had my taco for almost a year and have no dings or chips. I did trim the front ones 3 inches. I used a cut-off wheel, but I after doing that i'm sure you could just cut them with a sharp utility knife.

 

No pics, I sold that truck to get the taco. It was a Dodge anyway.

 

My fronts are off for the summer - on in the winter. I leave the backs on.

They frequently run out of salt and pour gravel on the roads around here.

It also sucks when they oil/stone the roads around here. They basically dump oil on the road and cover it with gravel. When you drive on it, the rocks stick to your wheels until they are flung off as they travel around. Sounds like a hail storm under my truck.


I do have tube steps and I knew they help to protect the sides of my truck. The bottom of the steps are covered in mud while the paint is still clean.

 

I took mine off, and after a year put them back on! I regret taking them off! It looked cool but a) the paint got THRASHED from rocks and road debris especially on the back end, b) My truck did'nt look like a 4x4 since the only thing on it that says so is the rear mud flaps. (ha ha trivial, but I wanna sport my 4x4 logos)

SO i trimmed a good bit off my front, and just to the 4x4 logo on the back. I like the way it looks- I like my mudflaps!
