There was no drunkness. We went out for dinner, parked in a dirt lot and when we were leaving I pulled forward over an ibeam that had been cut off and flattened into the dirt. Cut the sidewall on my front driver tire. We attempted to hi-lift it from the sliders but chose to move to the driver's d-ring on the bumper when the hi-lift tried to scratch against the door.

Here's pics of the bumper mount, and I'm stealing a pic from Eric's thread to show you what the mount should look like.

Here's Eric's pic of the 2 left side bolts on the flush bumper mount:

Here's a closeup of those same 2 bolts on my truck now:

    Another view:

And another view, this one shows a dirt line right along the bend. In person it looks as though the paint under the bend has cracked so I need to clean that off and see if the metal has actually started to tear:

The passenger side is also bent a little bit but not nearly as much as the driver's side.

In Eric's pic you can see an L bracket behind the front crossmember where the swaybar should be. My bumper (road armor) didn't come with that brace. Looks like I need to pick some up.

    That was a fun night.
The meeting at Fort Collins 4x4

One of the Yota's in the club.

The first parking lot. This was a fairly easy lot to wheel in and out of, no damage sustained here

Fire Pony on 33's and me on 32's...

This is where things got interesting, in the pic the tire is rapidly deflating, you can see the large metal flower, the thing was 1/4" jagged plate, and ripped thru the sidewall like a dress on prom night.

    E rated sidewall
    [IMG]

Took three of us to figure out the puzzle that was the spare tire. Sam is the man.

Spare actually had 42 psi in it.

There was more trail damage sustained, Fire pony ended up with 3 nice deep scratches, I think Will got one too plus the flat tire and I felt something on mine but haven't been able to tell what scratches were existing and what was new.
There was a chunk of rebar that had it's way with the paint, I didn't get a pic of it though.

I spotted Will and Lauren out of the lot after that and Sam, being the rebel that he is, took off out of the actual designated entrance.

Looking at your damage, I dunno if that little gusset would help... looks like the mounting is the weak point not the frame itself but the little ears that the bolts go through. you could flatten them back out and re-enforce them with a bit of plate samwiched between and welded to the frame but that would kick your bumper forward by what ever thickness you used I'd do at least 3/8's
    or am I missing something?

Where did you get scratches from?

The brace has a bolt that goes through the front plate on the bumper, through the big whole in the crossmember and then into the L bracket which is attached to the boxy part of the frame behind the crossmember.

That would have prevented the little ears from twisting forward and up because there would have been bracing below them.

The scratches came from a piece of rebar buried elsewhere in the dirt lot. It looked like a tree branch at first. It was all bent in an arc and on driving over one end, the other end jumped up and mostly smacked into doors causing some scratches. Lauren had it jump up and bite her newly painted tailgate as well.

So here's the story, the lot we parked is actually the remains of a gas station that burnt down a year or two ago, and has been mostly cleared of debris, but apparently not all of it. There were cars already parked in the lot, we weren't the first, we just parked on the other side, ground was rough, the urban wheeling was fun.
Somewhere in the lot was a chunk of rebar that when you ran over it would kick up and smack the side of the truck then lay flat for the next victim. This caused the scratches which we didn't notice until we had to change Will's tire.

Ahh ok... I was gonna say, if that's all that held your bumper on:eek:

well might still be worth cutting a couple strips of flat plate and welding to the mounting surface to make up for Toyota's cost saving methods

Whenever I use the Hi Lift on my sliders I always start with the jack tilted away from the truck to begin with. As I start jacking it up, it begins to straighten out vertically by tilting towards the truck.

That was my thought on a fix. Remove bumper, cut the welds on the flat ears plate, weld in a new ears plate not made from butter mixed with cardboard.

Good idea. I was going to just throw a padded cover over the end of the hi-lift but then we decided to go with the bumper. Who knew such drama would ensue.

I have that exact base. Just haven't gotten around to making the hi-lift and its toys a permanent part of my everyday load out. *shakes fist at universe*
