2009 double cab 4x4 sport at dealer today. Dealer is validating the truck to decide if they will do the harsh ride TSB. I first called the dealer and reported I was hitting the bump stops with ~500lb's in the bed, and that I was informed of the TSB. Dealer told me to bring it in. I brought the truck in this morning, and went over the TSB with the service guy. I showed him the VIN code is a match, and stated that the leaf springs match the "previous part #'s" listed on the TSB. He said they would do some validation, and let me know by noon. He did add that they will have to order the parts for the TSB if they do it, and that may be a few days.

I'll update as soon as they call. My intention is to help other 2009 owners by sharing my experience.

Dealer is Jack Safro Toyota out of Brookfield WI.

btw - I parked the truck in my normal spot last night, and took measurements from the ground to the middle of each wheel well (36 1/8), and from the ground to the bottom of the trailer hitch (16 5/8).

First reply from dealer = NO

Got an initial call from the dealer already. His first response was "the TSB only applies on up to 08 years." I stated that I realized that, but my VIN and part #'s match the TSB. He advised they need to call Toyota and confirm, and he will let me know.

Call Toyota and open a case number:

    Mention:

    "Harsh Ride"
    "Bottom Out"

When you have a load of approximately 600 lbs

I did not mention the '05 to '08 TSB when I called Toyota.

They will open a case number and the service writer will call you within 2 to 3 business days.

I was first told NO by the dealer and then I went back with about 600 LBS of sand bags in the back the the truck. I took one of the mechanics for a short ride around an unpaved parking lot and he agreed that it bottomed out.

The dealership had to go back to the regional service manager to get approval. It was approved within two days and within two weeks I had new rear springs / new shocks.

I am very happy with the upgrade.

    Good Luck

Agreed...you should have called Toyota first and reported the "harsh ride". They would have a case open that would be referenced when the dealer calls to ask for approval.

    Thanks for the info.

The dealer has not reported back yet as to what Toyota will do.

In the interim, I've called Toyota, and reported a harsh ride and bottoming out under load.

We'll see what the dealer comes back with...

I called toyota and opened a case and then brought all my paper work to my local dealer. With all documents in hand the dealer gave me no problems and did the TSB on my 09 double cab.

Got a call from the dealership. They don't know how long it will take Toyota to approve / deny the claim, so they told me to come get the truck.

Service advisor told me they had 7 guys in the bed of my truck, and it didn't bottom-out. I said WHAT!?!? 7 guys!?!? I guess those springs just got broken in ;-)

So, 1st visit = no dice.

Dealership has a ticket open with Toyota, as do I. Dealership states they will call me and let me know.

I haven't been able to verify this yet...but I think those VIN segments only detail the body and drivetrain configurations of the truck. There is MORE to a VIN than 5 characters and those other characters detail date and place of manufacture etc etc...and those VIN segments are in the "additional info" not the primary spot.

It sucks and it's semantics....but it's going by the paperwork. Calling Toyota was the right way to go!!

Thanks for the measurements. My truck is in the shop getting TSB right now and I forgot to measure it before I dropped it off. I was going to ask someone to measure theirs pre-TSB, and your thread was at the top! Do you have long or short bed? I have the exact same truck as you and mine is a long bed.

    Amos,

My truck is a short bed. I'll probably have to sit tight for a few days and wait for a call.

800-331-4331- I think if you press 4 you should go directly to a person.

And calling is probably the best way to go about it...E-mails get "lost" and routed around to a million people until they get to someone who gets told to call you about it anyways...Skip the bullshit and the waiting- Make the phone call.

Dealer called and said toyota did not approve them to do the TSB. He said he would have been happy to do it, but Toyota shot him down. I advised I'll continue to pursue with Toyota.

Is this T.S.B. only covered under warranty or is it still available after warranty has expired? My 05 double cab is still under powertrain warranty but, the bumper to bumper is expired.

I just kept on bugging Toyota.

The first time I tried I was shot down. I waited about a month and then tried the entire process again.

The thing that really put me over the edge was showing up with 600lbs of weight on the very rear of the bed similiar to the rated tung weight for the tow package.

Taking a mechanic for a ride over uneven ground put it over edge.

The truck has to be driven to get the full effect of the harsh ride.

    Good Luck All....

the TSB specifically states 36K/3 year warranty...but if you don't ask a dealer you will never get it.

Well, my dealer called the regional office, and they denied the claim. I called Toyota, and complained, but they are taking the position that the regional office is the highest point of escalation, and if they have denied doing the TSB that Toyota stands behind what they are saying. Essentially they told me I have no further course of action on this.
