Why's it gotta be a cheap shot? It's a perfect example. :D Nam wanted a TRD Sport hood scoop so he got a Sport hood and put it on. This guy wanted a Rustang front clip on his truck so he got one and put it on. Some folks think it's goofy, others think it's an improvement and a pretty cool mod. Wasn't characterizing Nam's mods one way or the other.

Agreed, but I don't know how bad I'd be rubbing on the floor pan/firewall. I do know right now with my sway bar unhooked, my LTBs are going to take a pretty hefty bite out of my fenders if I have the wheel turned at stuff. Also, I'm not sure how necessary tubbing would be if you SAS'd since you can set the axle fwd a bit to gain some clearance. In other words, I think the only way I'd go to 35s or larger is if I SAS'd. I just don't think the IFS CVs would handle it reliably...not in a locked front end anyway.

You know, I just remembered you're running 35s and I haven't heard much about you breaking the front end...wheeling anyway. But then there's folks like Colson that run 35s and break the front end just about every time. Of course, Colson is also locked in front like me, so my experience would probably be closer to his, or worse, since I prefer extremely aggressive tires like Swampers and Boggers. Actually, I kind of expect that I'll pop a CV at Hardrock if I make it this coming trip.

you'd take a hammer, grinder, welder and some sheet metal and fix the firewall issues. The cvs would handle 35s just fine as long as you know your limits and when to stop. I haven't really broken much since I started wheeling like calm human being. My only issues started when i was forcing my tires out of ruts and pissing off the steering rack as well as driving at 50+ down a trail. I still rub the firewall at full lock(hoping to fix that next week with some new UCAs. If i can't figure out how to weld soon, I might find a reputable 4x4 shop to tub my truck for me.

As for SAS, yes I'd just move the axle forward and forget about it since id have full width axles but my only chance of an SAS at the moment are to find a buyer for my truck and get a 1st gen since theres more kits that include everything for first gens rather than 2nd gens..

Before I pull the trigger on tires. Lee how street friendly are swampers? Will they last longer than iroks?

I'd say they'd last about as long as IROKs. Basically the same compound with a slightly different tread patterns I'm guessing. No Interco off-road tire has a terribly impressive mileage expectancy because they are made with a relatively soft compound to increase off-road grip. However, if you don't put a lot of mileage on your truck, they will last a good long time. The Trxus radials I had on my F250 (a 7500 lb truck according to the scales at the dump) lasted 9 years, but only had about 10k on them before they finally gave up due to old age. They were nearly down to the wear bars when they started chipping and one separated (not catastrophically, but it developed the typical wear pattern).

As far as street friendly, that's kind of a subjective question. it really depends on your expectations. If you expect them to handle like a good set of all-weather radials, you'll probably be disappointed. Mine don't ride bad after they warm up, but with bias ply tires like Swampers, Boggers, and IROKs, they'll be pretty rough after having been parked for a day or so. They get flat spots, but they get round again once they warm up. I pretty much drive like a grandpa :D, so I can't really speak about how they might handle during high speed maneuvering. In my experience though, I can't say they've done noticeably better or worse on the road (aside from wear) than any other mud terrain tire I've had, but they do develop a heck of a lot more traction off-road as a trade off for the poor wear.

    Hope that helps.

Bite yer tongue. Sure, you don't have to deal with the tire fitting crap, but then you get to deal with the lack of reliability (coming from a former Jeep owner as well here--loved it, but I broke it every time I took it off road and sometimes without ever leaving the pavement--16x35 Boggers). :D

Seriously though, IFS is a huge liability when it comes to building an off-road rig. It's a shame that Jeeps are the only thing you can get a straight axle in anymore...at least that isn't in the 1 ton truck or better range.

Dude, the easiest part of 35s is cutting the fenders. As said before, fiberglass is not a bolt on fit for 35s. You're gonna have to flatten the pinch weld then SEAL it well, beat the shit out your inner fender and cut away at the body mount. Im not seeing where everyone got the notion that bolting on fiberglass makes 35s fit lol:confused:

you're right but you and I both know how cheap it was to replace the whole jeep over the weekend parts wise lol I just get jealous when my buddies just bolt on long arms and coil over conversion kits and BOOM tires below their sliders haha shoot even the guy in the land cruiser I wheeled with last weekend had some sick front end flex!

hey now don't be posting porn on TW!

I think I'll just order the kevlars. The truck will not be driven often but the only decent priced swampers I can find are 16" wide for a 17" wheel.

I knew a guy running 40's on his taco. But he had like 12" total lift, including body.
