    Hello,

I am between a 4wd access cab tacoma v6 and a dodge ram 1500 sport standard cab. I know, big difference.

Anyway, how do you tacoma owners feel about your tacomas? the 2014? I am googling looking for troubles, and i see some shutter complaints, so i suppose the rule would be to try to recreate that issue in a test drive.

Any other issues? concerns? comments? Help! I can't decide.

    thank you

I like my 2013 a ton, but I'll admit that it's missing a lot of features and refinement that you'll likely find in the Dodge (heated mirrors, heated seats, a mpg computer, etc.) but for the me the proven simplicity of the the tacoma, the reliability and amazing resale were the key selling features. I'm also not a fan of Dodge's "look at me" styling, but that's of course a personal preference.

Get ready for a crap storm!!!! I was looking at them too, sweet deals in my area, like 10000 off msrp, but I decided to just pay off my taco.. For all the small problems that we have on our tacos, vibes are about the worse, and usually only if you lift it. Any and all fixes are ironed out or a quick search on this site can work it out. If I were to do it again, I would still want my taco, but you will get more for your money with dodge, making it a good deal. But the catch is I can sell my truck for about a grand less that what I bought it for, with 40k more on the clock and two years older. Check out the resale value and that may be enough to sway your decision. Or it can save you a bunch if you go with a used dodge vs a new or used taco.

Are you planning on towing anything heavy? Are you concerned with reliability, or the value that the truck holds as time goes on? If you're planning on towing anything heavy, maybe stick with a Tundra....if not, Tacoma..but I'm biased :)

Thanks everyone, I have read these vibration/shudder threads and those have been sort of scary. I just finished a lemon case after 15+ trips to the dealer with another manufacturer and am just super paranoid of getting another chronic problem.

I don't tow anything or off-road. I just really like the look of the dodge, the big engine grumbling factor. But the practicality of the taco wins easily.

The more I read these threads the more i'm leaning taco.

You ask this of a tacoma forum obviously we'll say:

    BUY A TACOMA!!!!!

:D love my truck. Swear up and down by it. I'll probably never sell it.

Lately we've had a lot of members leaving for Dodge. They're better than they used to be.
It comes down to how BIG of a truck do you need? The Ram 1500 compares better with the Tundra but there is a big price difference

Funny, I was also looking at Ram 1500 4x4 reg cab sports, along with Tacomas. However, in the past, I've had 2 bad experiences with Dodge trucks, and nothing but good experience with my 4-runners/Tacomas. I went with the Toyota. Its just the right size, dependable, good-looking, and has great resale.....

What are your intended uses? Any heavy towing, I'd say go with the Dodge. Otherwise :mudding:

For me, ignoring the Dodge vs. Toyota thing, I would pick the access cab over the std cab every day.

I've had my '13 Double Cab Sport 4WD for about a year and have no complaints. This is my first Toyota none the less first Tacoma and I really like it. It depends what you plan on using your truck for. I'm not towing anything heavy, even though with the tow package, you can tow up to 6500lb. I got 4WD just to have it for snow or light off road situations. I also wanted whatever I bought to fit in my garage. I looked at the Dodge Ram regular cabs. They're nice, but I think I got more bang for the buck with the Tacoma. The base model Rams are kind of cheap inside compared to the Tacoma. And when you start to upgrade on the Ram, the price goes up quite a bit. The only suggestion I would have is consider a double cab. It's nice having a full back seat. I just came back from a 1500 mile road trip and the person with us (3 total) had no complaints about the back seat. Kind of nice to have the ability to throw a couple of people in the back seat if needed. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Only complain your going to hear on the Tacoma seems to be power MPG and little girls that expect luxuries in a truck when in my opinion is a show of what we've come to expect instead of just being happy that we are gifted enough to not be starving. #rant over

I had a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 for 3 years (bought it new).

The only reason I bought the Dodge, was to regularly tow 6500lbs with ease (built jeep). After I lost the need to tow on a regular basis - the Dodge wasn't worth keeping. First off... it's just too damn big for quick & easy trips around town. You always need to 'be super careful' and aware of how big the truck is.

Gas mileage wasn't a concern and wasn't much different than my tacoma.

I owned the Dodge for 3 years - it was in the garage 3X for warranty work (4WD system wasn't working and took them 3x to find it. They had to tear apart the entire dash to find some lose wire).

Anything Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, etc... has issues short term & long term. I've never owned a Chrysler (gag!!) and the only Jeep that didn't have problems - was both Wranglers I owned that had 35's, Dana 44's, and a rollcage in it.
Don't get me started on a Grand Cherokee we used to own. That thing robbed my bank account multiple times over!

The problem with the Ram is that it's got a big, huge, ugly Ram emblem on the front! Buy the Tacoma!...
