I noticed the light "rr diff lock" on the dash of my 1st gen Tacoma but I do not now how to engage it and if there is a switch or button I do not know where it is. Can you lock the rear diff on a first gen and if you can, how? thank you!

If yours isn't a TRD Off Road then it won't have a locker, it's just a blank spot on the gauges.

The first way to know if you have a locker is to look for these...

    The switch

The locker motor on the axle...

If you have these, then you have a locker, and to engage just hit the button when your going under 5 mph. The light in the gauges will blink until it engages. Do not go over 5mph until the light turns solid. Do wide s-turns forward and reverse if it doesn't want to lock. don't turn too tight or it can bind...

Oh, also. If you're 4x4 you must be in 4-low to activate the locker, unless you do what's called the "grey wire" mod which allows you to engage it in 2 wheel drive and 4-high.
