Has anyone had trouble with their TPS sensor making check engine light come on? or make It run rough?

Yup. Noticed it running rough and check engine light on indicating faulty TPS. Replaced TPS and problem solved.

X2, cel came on and threw the tps error code. Very easy to swap out, just get an oem tps and don't mess with any aftermarket stuff. Cost me somewhere in the neighborhood of $60. Haven't had a problem since. :bananadance:

What's wrong with "aftermarket"? I just swapped mine out in the parking lot of AutoZone. Haven't had an issue yet, granted it's only been a couple weeks.

Back in 2007 I had an 01 with the 3.4 and it would stumble and die in traffic. Always cranked back up. I was working at Lexus in SoCal and someone suggest the TPS. I think it was $36 with my discount. Slapped it on and no more problems. Didn't even remove the TB but it would have made it easier.

Cheap Chineese crap! That's the problem. Perhaps you got the 1 in a 1,000,000 that worked out. But when it fails you'll be wondering why and will be back at the parts counter.

Toyotas seem to work best with parts designed by Toyota. I've learned my lessons over the years as you will find out as well. Some things I've discovered is that you can't cut corners on and electrical parts is one area I won't compromise on. That practice has served me well in 45+ years of wrenching and hasn't failed me yet.

OP, if your on a tight budget, and who's not? I get that! But if you can see your way clear to spend the extra few $$ for oem parts, I'd do it.

Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with or have stock in Toyota USA, an ASE mechanic or a licensed practioner thereof. What I am is just an Old Fart that is Old Schooled that has "Been There and Done That". Well almost anyway.

Good luck with your choice. :oldglory:

Have you determined what code is triggering the CEL?

For little things such as sensors, I've never had an issue with AutoZone. Heck, even bigger items I have yet to have problems with. Batteries, starters (new, not reman), alternators (again, new), even brake pads, rotors, and calipers (Tundra brake upgrade) haven't given me issue.

Certain things, like lower ball joints, timing belts, water pumps, etc., sure, I get straight from Toyota.

Where can you get a Throttle Position Sensor for a 3.4 Tacoma?

My understanding was they are not available on their own and that you had to buy the entire Throttle Body to get one?

    Link?

Any autoparts store should have it. I think mine was around $60.
