Well, question is, is that the problem? No point trying to solve it if it isn't. Compression test and borescope.

And, the knock sensor should be tested and replaced if necessary. I'm pretty sure it is just a simple in-place resistance test, but don't have manual handy (or time right now).

Check and do all the easy PM stuff first, PCV valve, then MAF and TB and IAC cleaning. Check all your vacuum lines for cracking/brittleness, too.

Just for kicks because it is good PM and easy too, when is the last time the fuel filter was changed? You might want to do this, then run several batches of Techron fuel system cleaner (not injector cleaner, the system cleaner has a higher concentration of solvents) through it.

Have you calibrated trip gauge? 20 mpgs is crazy good with those tires.

No, you would see higher than stock spec compression. Basically, carbon builds up on the top of the piston, decreasing the volume of the combustion chamber and therefore increasing compression over stock spec at TDC, and potentially leading to predetonation, which is a premature ignition of the A-F mixture before the sparkplug is timed to fire.

Might need a new grommet too for the valve cover if you see lots of crud around it

Ya ever run sea foam thru the vacuum lines at the intake? It will clean the intake valves and hopefully most of the carbon buildup in the cylinder. IMO the compression test would be a good idea too, but if it was my truck I'd run some sea foam thru first cuz it's cheap.

I run my OMEs shock body down. The boot is more of an open ended sleeve and would hold water if I ran shock body up.

Is this the same regardless if they are gas or oil filled? I had a TJ that had horrible axle hop. I flipped my struts and the problem went away.

X2, that is really my only reasoning for doing it that way. I haven't heard a real strong argument for it being better one way or the other, you should be fine.
