Good evening gents. Working on signing up for the warranty for all the different computer parts I bought. Using a checklist makes it easy. Some of the companies do not allow you to register your product.

I have "pretty much" all I need to hand load also. Dies, press, scale, metered powder dispenser, brass, bullets, primer tool. I was given all this a few years ago. I was a bit reluctant to attempt reloading on my own. My main concern is COAL. I realize each manufacturer and each bullet weight and shape has a different COAL length. What would be a good COAL to start with .020 off lands, .030 off lands? Some of the off the shelf rounds I have appear to be a much as .100. Would like to get back into shooting and deer since I am going to be retiring soon. I would like to start with a 117 grain soft point.

    Evening all:
Oh sure; had to make it hard! :)
From what I've read and learned: some guns like the tip to be almost touching the lands, some .005 jump, some .010, and some .015. As long as the bullet isn't being forced into the lands, which could cause the tip to pull out of the case. That should not happen if the case is crimped.
When they factory load, the finished product must fit a variety of chambers, and the jump is much further than would normally be required when loading for one specific rifle. I would try to stay somewhere between .005 and .015 if it's just for that one rifle. I have a bunch of 30- 06 rifles, and have the seating die set for .010 off the lands of the primary one I use. Never had a problem.
I get very good accuracy out of the Hornady Spire Point. I load this in all the calibers, and its my go to tip.

    Evening Sue!

I like being able to work on small motors. I am always getting free mowers and chain saws form people that get pissed off at them. My family likes it as well. There is always someone in the family that will take a working mower of chainsaw off your hands.

I-75 is not bad, but I-95 is the killer. You have 95 Y.O.s that think that big 95 beside the road is the speed limit. Then you got the 100 Y.O.s trying to make it a one day drive from So.Fla to NYC. The FHP loves them:rolleyes:...Unmarked Mercury works every time:([IMG]
