Monte, what all does an aftermarket UCA supply? I see people always mentioning having to go aftermarket when lifting. I am still have the stock ones and haven't had an issue with alignments. Do they allow more travel or anything really worth it?

For 2nd gens they are very important for getting correct alignment with lifts. Yours isn't very big so you're probably okay.

If you get nice CO they do merit more travel yes.

Only if you are running 3" of lift up front or more. Hell some guys still get 3" lifts in spec with stock arms.

As for travel, they allow a couple inches or so of extra travel.

Gotcha, I know I didn't get them because I didn't go with a 3+ inch lift. I just keep seeing people suggesting them to everyone and couldn't figure out why.

I put my stock uppers back on :anonymous:

I'm at probably 2.5" lift and I've got no problems with alignment. I put the stocks back on a while back before 285's because they keep the tire more centered in the wheel well. With the aftermarket uca i'd have to run 4+* caster to get the same tire position as 2.8 with stock uca... helps me not have to cut much at all for 285's :D

Or put them back on and just run the 4+* of caster. Gives the spindle a better angle for hitting rocks at high speeds, like how dirt bike forks have a lot of caster to help take hits.

I think all of the aftermarket UCA's add 2* of caster and a little camber. that is how they help guys get their alignments back in spec when running larger lifts.

You're still on stock UCAs aren't you Monte?

Are the aftermarket UCAs worth the expense with standard style shocks as opposed to something like a Fox or Icon coilover?

I figure once I start upgrading UCAs then I'll want better shocks, then better lowers, ect ect. Then baddabing I have a LT trail runner before too long.

If your going to go LT...don't bother.

If your going to go mid travel, then get some and get extended travel CO. THey will do great. Very nice setup for DDing and trail running, crawling and even go fast.

im on stock ones. We don't need aftermarkets as much to get into alignment spec.

plus 95-97s seem to take lift better in the first place for unknown reasons so you should be fine.

Yea, we'll see when i feel like dropping another 90 bucks on an alignment... just dumb

I used to know all the numbers but they are not all the same. The boxxed DSM uppers add like 2.5, TC is like 3 i think...

Yea its crazy, that's why my 31's were hitting my rear wheel well with 3.5* caster under stuff turning. and now with stock arms and 33's I dont hit with 2.5*... wtf
