I picked up a bestop soft top for my tacoma and I am having an issue with keeping the front panel in place. As I drive down the highway the bar just above the tailgate is being pushed off the mount. My gas mileage is in the toilet as well, I am thinking the soft top is acting like a giant parachute. I went from 20mpg on average to 15mph on the same run the only change is the soft top.

I am considering screw the front flap down to the rail and see if that helps. Is anyone else running into these sorts of issues or am I just special?

Not sure about the Bestop, the softopper came with 3 snaps that screwed into the back wall of the bed, it holds it tight

For the front panel, I clamped a piece of aluminum angle on top of the Velcro with c-clamps. No more pulling free and flapping around. Additional bed rail clamps are available from bestop to use instead of c-clamps.

Nope everything is where it is supposed to be. I will try the angle aluminum and clamps but if that doesn't work its getting screwed to the rail.

I'm sure the clamped aluminum angle will keep it planted. As for the rear flap coming loose, mine is very tight on the brackets it slides onto, I can't imagine it ever coming loose. Take a pair of pliers and squeeze the channel on the rear window bar, so that it will fit tighter on the brackets.

So I found a black softopper local for $500 that is a year old for my DCSB (comes with the rear mesh). Worth it?

I'd say go for it as long as it's in good shape. I'm already happy with mine and I haven't even done anything with it yet :D

Picked one up a few weeks ago. Loving it so far. Kind of glad I went with a Softopper, after reading so many people's opinions on here.

I clamped the front down last night and everything was good getting to work today. When the front popped up it was allowing air into the cap and after so much pressure the rear bar would pop out. I think now that I have the front clamped down we should be good.

Aahhh gotcha, I didn't understand the rear flap, now it makes sense. Mine holds tight, I won't check the clamps for a few months and they work great.

And it's like 34 lbs. complete.

Never considered the weight advantage until after I bought it.

Anyone have pics of the location of the rails on a short bed? My rail " peeks" through the fabric in the rear ever so slightly. I thought I have the rails as far forward as they could go and still allow the topper the fold forward.

Any rail pics and also how much gap between the front window to rear truck glass would be appreciated. Not warm enough outside yet to mess around with everything

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
My 6 ft box looks like it's long in the rear too. Not sure if I have pix in my gallery buy I'll check later today.
