Ok guys and gals ive had this thud/thunk metal on metal noise in the front right suspension of my 08 Tacoma. It occurs when going over bumps or small irregularities in the road being driven. I have looked high and low for an answer even talked with multiple mechanics the answers i have gotten are.
1.Your shocks need replaced. although they are a bit old there are no signs of them being bad.
    2. the brush guard you have is loose and rattling around. I have turned every bolt connecting it and they are all tight and movement is impossible.
3.(most likely of the three) the upper and lower control arm bushing need to be replaced. the bushing are somewhat dry cracked at 90,000miles.
with this being said ive been told i need to replace the whole control arm which is not entirely true just an easier more expensive solution to the bushings. Someone please shed a little light on this problem.

If your truck is a 4x4? It's probably just your front axles rattling went you hit a bump. It's normal if that is the case. My brand new truck does it.

A bunch a cool stickers, a bada ass MetalMiller Tx Longhorns grill emblem painted Hemi Orange, JBA long tube headers with o2 sims, Diff breather mod, Red LED interior lights, Fancy head unit that plays ipod n movies, Also DIY install factory stuff like, factory cruise control, factory intermittent wipers, OME nitro struts with 886x springs and toy tec top plate, JBA high caster UCA's for better alignmnet and dey beefier too, Old Man Emu Dakar leaf springs in da rear with the gear, U bolt flipper, Ivan Stewart TRD rims with 33" K Bro 2's, some bad ass weather tech floor liners so I don't muck up my interior, an ATO shackle flipper for mo travel in da rear wit the gear, also super shiny Fox 2.0 shocks back there too, all sorts of steal armor for bouncing off of the rocks like demello sliders, AP front skid, trans skid, n transfer skid, demello gas tank skid, and a tough as nails ARB bumper with warn 8k winch, I'm sure there's more
Torque your lower control arm cam bolts n nuts to 100ftlbs and see if the problem persists. Loose suspension components make noise and alot of the time, just need to be set to the proper torque.

Most likely your sway bar is rubbing your coils. I had the same problem and it was a $20 fix

it sounds like your engine fan is toast....better replace the rear diff and probably your left rear leaf pack... but it might be your windshield wipers too. At least thats what the guy at the 10 min oil change place told me when I heard that sound and they offered to change everything for only $199.99...

I had the same clunk in the same situations and it was driving me bonkers. I finally jacked the truck up and checked the entire front suspension. Everything checked out, except for some play in the sway bar on the driver's side. Jack your truck up and try and move the sway bar forward (to the front of truck) and back. If it moves, replace the bushings. They cost $15-$20 at NAPA and take about 20 minutes to remove the old ones and install new ones. I think there's a high probability that this will solve your problem...it did wonders for me. When I compared the I.D. of the old bushing with the new ones I was amazed at how much they had compressed over the years.

    First post ! Here goes.

1.Chock your rear wheels and set e-brake
2.Jack front of the truck up.
    3.Support the front on stands.
    4.Grab a cold beer.
    5.Drink it.
6.Go on toyota forums and look on the BST for some good used parts.:)
    7.Kick the tires. :D
8.Remove stands and lower the truck.
9.Probably nothing. repeat this for a few days.
10.Eventually when the truck is up if you have enough beer you might feel ambitious enough to put your hands on all of your front end and suspension components.Use a bar under the tire to put some upward pressure on it.Check all bushings and bolts. You will find something loose and worn to replace.

My first suspect is sway bar bushings or end links.

I can't let the wife know
any solution to this problem? I have the same thing happen. I don't have a sway bar so that's off the list. It only does it when I go over the first bump. After that it wont do it till its stationary or parked then if I start driving again, it will happen. Any one?
