aFe is one of our best selling intake brands for all Tacomas...I see why now! It's fundamentally well designed for most environments, solid construction, good filter unless you're in a ton of dust, and a lid. You'll never hear us claim that you will pop wheelies and grow an inch from installing a CAI, but the aFe Si reports have been positive. If your truck build includes an intake, you'll like the aFe for sure.

Pro 5R (washable oiled filter) http://www.gotexhaust.com/i-1413413...numforce-stage-2-si-pro-5r-intake-system.html

The urd might be the best performance wise but it's more involved to install. It's also quieter than the afe. Having said that I had the afe and liked it but it is louder than stock. I ended up selling mine mainly to make the wife happy but if I were a single guy I'd still have it.

I recommend the URD if I didn't have to cut part of my sheet metal off to make it fit.

not fun in the rain especially around rigs on the highway, not fun when u need to wash the truck, not happening with an automatic wash or touchless, doesnt pull any colder air than stock at speed (both pull ambient at ~35-40 MPH).

You must cut part of the sheet metal around the radiator/headlight area, and either get the extension, or snip and solder ur maf wires.

Its got a nice growl outside while remaining subdued in the cabin, its dyno proven.

I miss the sound (it rlly does sound awesome).......... but I HATED pulling over when it rained and having to install the hydrophobic sock.

    AFE- no problems

FYI, for anyone considering the URD, I have the URD with the metal shield. I have never had a rain induced stumble or cut out. FYI, I live in the Houston area, just off the Gulf Coast. It's been know to rain here once in a while .

For me, the aFe had an annoying off-idle noise that drove me nuts, so it was sold.

Just goes to show you, anyone buying an intake needs to do their research and figure out what's important to you. Justus has tried the aFe and URD and lands on the aFe, Lurkin tries the aFe and URD and lands on the URD....

It was.... I used it as a splash shield.

Worthless, that and the poor sealing maf sensor standoff.

Maybe I just got a super duper awesome urd intake that wasn't up to QC, just like the mk2 exhaust I have and had to butcher to make it actually fit.

Sometimes I feel like a beta tester....... Without the discounts or beforehand knowledge.

You don't actually think I ran the shield backwards do you?

Absolutely not, just messing with you, hence the smileys.

I'd actually thought about turning mine around during good weather, to act like a "scoop" but didn't want to deal with turning it back,,, would be a bit worse then dealing with the sock, but still better breathing. Also I figured the metal shield would rub on the radiator, since the filter is pretty close.

    Didn't try that....

Hmm..... I did plumb the intercooler return line thru the throttle body tho.... That and a primo ground kit ($200 on eBay), got me another 5mpg, shifts faster and pulls wayyy harder than ever

I have that same shield on my warm air intake, even though there are no water issues where it's located... ;)

It's very sturdy and well designed.

XRU shows dynos with CAI's gaining 14+ HP and up tp 20 with the CAI and S/C. I have one on my S/C and for sure it has a harder hit all around than with the stock airbox and definitely a much harder hit when VVTI and boost kick in..
