Tall will drive worse on the hwy. Higher COG means horrible turning especially at higher speeds...

I guess our definitions on tall are different. I'm not talking about something huge. Just something with a little more uptravel than the truck pictured...

Really though, for that truck I'd just run smaller tires to allow more room and be done with it.

I think he was referring to having more than a couple inches of up travel so you don't hit the bump stops every time there is a bump in the road. Though with that much sidewall your tires should soak up a lot of the bumps anyway.

Konsta wants to run a 30" frame height on 44's. Basically max ground clearance so he doesn't have issue climbing ledges and clearing big ass rocks.

Envision something like this but with much bigger rocks or like say the waterfall at the end of Helldorado.

He also wants a lot of clearance for snow wheeling as well. I think he likes snow wheeling more than rock crawling. haha Probably throw some mudding in there as well until he gets his other rig built.

you can have up travel with a low ride height...

Guess that one just looks like the ride height and tire combo would yield very little up-travel... :notsure:

Lower ride height would make crawling much easier and safer. Snow wheeling it wouldnt really make a difference. 44" tires are going to float like crazy when aired down to 2-5 psi. Only reason go build a tall sas is for mudding...

Not all rock crawling is equal. ever seen bolder hopping a lot of things grab the belly of those lower rock crawler that i dont want toughing my belly.

yeah if you cut the ever living fuck out of your truck and if you plan on running a 44" tire thats lots and lots of cutting. At that point should have just made a buggy. I dont want a buggy i want a truck that can clear that tire still have some really good up travel and lots of flex This is not my first rodeo this is my second build.

once again i had a sas'd crawler that worked great for everything it had a 28" frame height and was factory width. so being much wider and longer makes me stable yet i dont drag when i do the big boy parts of the trail mmk;). As far easier and safer well thats rock racing not crawling.

A low CG is cool for a go fast truck, but I have like 8" of frame clearance at full stuff. I leave skid marks in the dirt on hard hits. It gets hung up pretty easy in the rocks, but the wheel travel compensates quite a bit. Obviously, a normal height sas will do better in a rock garden.

I know what you mean. Having lots of up travel means my cab is pretty level through everything while crawling, but at the expense of clearance. When your rig starts using that up travel your belly gets closer to the rocks... With my ORI's empty (so full stuff) and 50 psi in my 33's I can't fit a floor jack under my diff skid... and sure enough, running at 50+ mph with the tires at 20psi

I was going the other direction when I hit the ground. We turned around to look at the ground and check out the truck. Mark is adjusting the Go Pro.

Looks like my career is changing. Got a job offer at a tire shop. Might get my mechanics apprenticeship started pretty soon. Cheap tires, cheap parts, free alignments, free labour!

    howboutyou?
