    You can't not like the 3.4, this thread isn't about what YOU dislike! :p

    Jake are you sure something isn't wrong with your engine? Seems like terrible mpgs.
    I hate how crappy the interior of the truck is. The cup holders broke, window handle broke on the passenger side. The Orginal seats are terrible as well.
    Leaf springs are pos also and stock headlights.

    i don't like that the OEM leafs are so weak; cheap/easy fix, though

    i won't say i dislike the 5-speed, because i don't;
    but, i wish it had a high 6th, then maybe i wouldn't be at 2.75k rpm on the freeway
    and i'd get a little better mileage; still, i'm really OK with it

    i often sleep in my vehicles; i have buckets seats (trying to lie across 2 buckets isn't very comfortable)
    and the width of the truck isn't enough for me to get a proper stretch;
    BUT! it's kind of a catch: i like the size of the truck, as it makes it super nimble;
    and although, i haven't been able to yet... i'm sure, one of these days, i'll find the 60/40 bench and replace my buckets

    i didn't like the sealed headlights on my 95.5;
    had to remove the grill and replace the entire assembly every time a bulb went;
    but, i converted them

    someone will have something to say about this, i'm sure; and maybe i'm just spoiled from my old buick that i could change all the spark plugs in literally 10 minutes, without having to remove/move anything (except the plugs/wires, obviously)
    wish it was that easy on the 3.4

    I just recently discovered that I can get my 3.4 filter from the top (through the engine bay)
    From up there I was able to immediately tip the oil filter, upon release, and not spill a drop of oil
    This made me very very happy; when I was going in through wheel-well, I could tip and not spill it about 50% of time

    Wrap a plastic bag around the filter once you get it loose. No mess.

    My biggest:

    Gas mileage.

    Rust.

    Otherwise I love it.

    I had a DC w/a 5spd...
    '99 3.4L 4x4 W/TRD package.

    My dislikes were:

    1) dash rattle
    2) Loading/unloading bulky items (hunting gear, camping gear, etc) into the rear of the cab sucked.

    Other than that, I loved my 1st gen. It was a great truck; never left me stranded and it'd go just about anywhere. If I had the $$ I'd totally buy another one and mod it for trails.

    leaf springs (need to save money now after reading everything)

    practically useless jump seats :p

    stupid clock placement (hello 4runner placement!)

    They didn't make DCs in 99.

    That's one of my biggest complaints is no manual in a double cab and how short the bed is. Other than that tacomas are my favorite vehicles to own and I have owned tons of vehicles for my age.

    Crap, I forgot the terminology people on here use. :eek:
    I'm of a generation/location where a "Double Cab" means an extended cab, and a "Crew Cab" means it's got four full doors.

    So I'll retract my statement about DC's.

    Started automatic. Swapped to manual
    Frame rust#1, 2sp wind washer,rotors,leafs week, bucket seats uncomfortable, all things considered frame rust biggest. Everything else easily fixable. And yeah, oil filter placement sucks. O2 sensors too!

    Yeah, native virginian lost 95.5 to rust.

    double cab and crew cab mean the same thing. extended cab is the same as access cab except that access cab usualy has a suicide door or two for easier ACCESS.

    If that SR5 V6 would have had a 5 speed, I would have been on it.

    In hindsight, glad I went with the 2.7 because it's mileage rating at that time was a couple ticks higher than the auto V6 and that's about the time gas prices really cranked up there for a bit.

    The V8's were just then released first in the big SUV they put out or I would have gone Tundra 4x4 auto.

    Glad I waited again, the new Tundra has alot more room and really good mileage and power, proven parts.

    I do agree about the seats being uncomfortable on long drives to be sure.
