I am new to the forum and just curious what everyone thinks......i have a 07 black accesscab tacoma. i want to black it out. I can get tail light covers at Advance Auto for $30. Or do i attempt to paint them myself...and i have no experience so i am nurvouse i might screw up. How much might this cost to do at a local body shop?

Also i want to black out the 3rd brake light up top...do they make a cover for that or do you have to paint it? i would like to do the same for both the tail lights and 3rd brake light so they are the same.

    Thanks in advance.....

I have a black taco too.. and Im in the process of "blacking it out" too; however, painting your taillights can seriously screw you over! Cops are assholes (well most of them) and they will pull you over and give you an overexagerated fine just for doing so. Im going to get the LUND black out covers (cost about 80 bucks, but I think it's worth it bc 80 bucks now is way less than a 200 dollar ticket). If a cop gives you any trouble.. just YANK them off haha.

Get them painted at a shop or use VHT nightshade, but take your time and do it properly.

I think you should use covers.

    Then, when you...
are pulled over and fined for illegal taillights
or get in an accident because they couldn't see you were braking
...you can just pull the covers off.

Yeah...sarcasm aside, I would not recommend it.

This question always makes me ><

Lights are there specifically to emit luminescence. Why must you cover them? Personally I think all black trucks with clearcornered lights all around look far better than totally blacked out vehicles. You need some contrast somewhere.

We can only pray it is so.

If I were you. I'd take them to a shop to get them professional done. Do it light smoke tint so you can see the red still behind them. I think as long as its done right and light. You'll be fine. Its when you do it too dark and done wrong. The light output of the taillights become a problem.

Don't get the covers. Those are too dark and look nasty imo. Get it done professionally.

Yea, I gotta agree as much as I love blackout... I wouldn't do it to a street vehicle. I hate it when I come up on someone that's done it... almost every time I almost can't tell they have their brakes on until I'm on their ass. Not worth it imo, plus I think the little bit of red is a very nice off-set myself.

However, if someone can figure out a workable BHLM for the tail lights, that'd be a different story. Then the light output would remain the same...

what do you think about these........

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/05-0...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Also, no that everyone brought a lot of info to the table for me...i never really thought about the person behind me......the mod i would have done could soon cost me my truck...just to black it out.

The price of these is very appealing. Let me know what you guys think.

Also i have a ton of time on my hands because i just got in a motorcycle accident a months and a half ago so give me projects to do !!!!! lol

For euro style they look pretty good, actually remind me of the "GT-R" overlays I wanted to get for my G35 before I traded it, blacking the rest out while leaving the actual lighting portion at full brightness. If you pick them up, deff show off some pics I'm curious.

Seriously considering swapping to pre-09 taillights because I think the 09s are ugly. My only hesitance is giving up the LED, which is a nice feature.

Let me know if you swap out and may be looking to sell your TL assemblies...

I haven't looked into it but, it wouldn't suprise me if there's an aftermarket LED bulb replacement. That way you get the best of both :D I'm not to keen on the '09 tails myself, though I think they have some potential if a BTLM could be done on them over the old style.

Or a clearcorner, yeah. If I could clearcorner them, I'd keep them in a second. The headlights are heading that way in the near future anyway.

Get them tinted. Why do people insist that you absolutely cannot see them? If you can't see mine then you must be blind.

I got these. They rock. Look dark but also look oem. Also got a similar brake light off ebay too. Now no more obnoxious red
