Uh...What do you expect? You want the bed extender to be a hologram unless you want to use it?

Thank God it doesn't have this, its a truck not an SUV. I wish it had a stick for the transfer case altogether.

When I switch to 4wd I have to have it, or I get stuck on the beach with a trailer and the tide coming in.

SERIOUSLY Toyota needs to offer a 'cold weather' package including wiper defroster in the windshield (area/glass) and heated mirrors. They'd have to bump the alternator to 160amp from the stock 100 but so what???
They could charge $600.00 for this and make you buy an upgrade package too and still make more $$.

Don't forget the seats. Really surprised there's no heated mirrors and or seats except for the premium.

Uh....I use the shit out of the bed extender, the older model was more functional with the dog crates in. Accessory page showed a picture of the old model. Dealership added the extender as part of the deal, but it arrived after the truck was delivered.

Gonna ditch this one and go with the Amp Research (who I understand makes the OEM) one in black which allows you to use the full length of the tailgate with cargo.

I just test drove a '14 reg cab 4cyl with manual trans, it felt cheaper than my 1991 same model truck (maybe I'm getting old and spoiled with vehicles now). Maybe the emissions has killed it. I wish I could find a cherry Gen 1 Tacoma 4cyl. Hopefully they will get better in the future (ie a 4cyl that could get better MPG, or a V6 that can get same MPG as an American full sized truck that outweighs it by 2,000 LBS would be a nice start).

I've had my 2014 Taco for about 2 weeks now. My prior truck was a big GMC 2500HD diesel, so the differences are pretty massive. Here's what I find annoying with the Tacoma:

    • It's a tin can - Closing the doors, the hood, the tail gate, etc. Because of the thinness and lack of material on the truck, everything just *clanks* when I close it. Very unlike the bank-vault-like *THUNK* of closing the GMC's doors. The doors could use a good bit of sound deadening added to them, and I might actually have a stereo installer do that.
    • The interior is sub-standard - The interiors of the Tacos hasn't changed much in years (I've owned 2 in the past). I'm a little surprised by this, to be honest. Interior refinement is very expensive for a manufacturer, but I figured Toyota would throw some money into it.
    • De-contented 2014s - As has been discussed a bzillion times: Toyota de-contented the 2014 Tacomas to lure people into the Limited up-sell. Heated seats and mirrors: nope. Powered mirror with utilities: removed. These things are reasonably easy to remedy, but it's annoying to have to do that.

The seats and seating position suck suck suck IMO. Mpgs could be better but I don't get that worked up over those.

    Hmmm....what don't I like?
    1. The brakes. Sorta soft and spongy since day one.
    2. 4WD switch is not lighted. Really? No, really? WTF, like you only need 4WD during daylight. Also, prefer a shifter on the console, like my '97 Taco.
    3. 18-19mpg good be a little better.
    4. Changing the plugs. I mean passenger side is wide open. A little thought by the engineers could have made the drivers side almost as easy. As a Machine Design engineer, I always think about the poor SOB that has to service equipment.
    5. Back to the brakes. How hard or expensive would it have been to have 4 wheel disc brakes?

All in all, I do love my Taco. Does all I need in the mountains for hunting and fishing. I hope it gives me as good a run as my '97 4WD. 180K miles, only normal maintenance items and a started at 90K. Shame the frame rusted. Still Toyota was good for a 6800$ check.

Disc brakes are more expensive. The front wheels do more of the stopping than the rear anyway.

Brakes soft/spongy??? You may need to check them/ hydro fluid-air bleed... that's not a normal Taco trait.

Ya, I know disc brakes are more expensive. Figgered 32K new shoulda covered it. And yeah I know about 75/25 braking front to back. Still discs would be the way to go.

As far as the "soft" brakes, it was a common complaint during reviews. Had them checked several times at the stealership and my local mechanic. No problems found. My guess is, if the dealer coulda made money, they would have.

only gets 20.9mpg so far w/V6 auto trans; CD player takes only one CD- should store at least six CDs; no locking gas cap/door/tailgate; people think I`m rich; otherwise :D I really like this truck. What other midsize truck has these cool factors, 4x4hi-lo, ATRAC, elec. lok RR diff., towing pkg., OR pkg. dblcab, Toyota quality:confused:

    Some of my thoughts...

    - no automatic lights
    - doors do not lock automatically when taking the vehicle out of park (unless I am missing something)
    - V6 engine could have more hp....but my other car is a V8 BMW so my point of reference is probably tainted
    - no locking tailgate but I know I can go aftermarket...
    - braking

Honestly though these are not huge items for me as I love the truck...
