Roger.. I'll see what I choose to do once the other one gets to Kodiak. I definitely agree with you about the shitty trail comms.. Most of the guys I run with have CB - a couple of them have HAM. Not that I'm for wasting money, but $50 for an extra radio isn't that huge of an investment.

My expectations aren't super high for the quality of the radio - looking at it mostly as a way to keep myself busy while I'm farting around up here. The repeater on the island has got Echolink/IRLP - and it's somewhat interesting to chat with people. As it stands right now, I've been bullshitting with guys with the 2M radio in the wheelhouse - mainly when we're offloading, and I've got nothing else to do. Funny - because I tend to stay off of repeaters when I'm in the lower 48.

Do find it odd that they're wide open on the TX side as well..

Ya...I had to get out the soldering iron to get mine to do that. I wouldn't ever use it unless I was upside down in a ditch and bleeding, but I have the Sheriff/LE freq's available, and in this part of the country cell coverage sucks. At least I could get a bird in the air...and communicate with the bird while it's in the air.

Yup.. I don't want to start another flame war on here.. But, I agree with you on that.

I was driving the boat yesterday - some dude was trying to call a couple of Stratotankers overhead on VHF 16.. "Yeah, this is to those tankers overhead.. I see that white shit.. you're supposed to give the island a 500 mile radius.. I know what you're doing.. I'm not afraid to call the president.. Mind control, man".

Scored a mint camping lab RTT for 550 the other day from a guy down the street:D Going to be building a rack with some lighting for it this weekend. Outer frame will be 1'' square tubing and cross beams will be 3/4'' thin wall with a wind break at the front out of whatever plastic sheeting I can find.

The lights will swivel and each have an individual switch as well as a master switch inside the cab. So you can either turn them all on when driving or turn on only what you need while camping or whatever.

Lol. I work at an airport with drone (UAV) traffic. I hear shit like that a lot. It's really funny because the "pilots" are just some hungover National Guard guys that have zero interest in spying on anyone and are just trying not to crash the fucking thing. (They don't get to play with them as much as active duty guys).

I have the FSS Pulaski, FSS mini axe and a folding Silkie saw. And lost a FSS shovel in Death Valley. Never needed anything more and couldn't beat the price.

I love the Silky saws. I picked up the Silky Big Boy to put behind the seat. Other than that, I carry my old Boy Scout hatchet.

^I guy I knew carried one of them. I only went out camping with him once but he got drunk off 6 beers and then decided to cut down a small tree. Did it in under 10 minutes. Then he went to bed and his girlfriend apologized for his behavior haha

I carry a sven saw backpacking, its the best saw I've ever used. Light weight, strong, and sharp as hell!
