Only 2 mpg more?

Can I have back the minute that I spent reading this thread?

 

Most likely the higher octane won't help. I've tried 93 octane, and it did nothing for power, or mileage. There's no proof that premium gasoline has more detergent, you only have the oil company ads which claim so. If you can find pure gas (no ethanol) that will help some, but how much varies. I use the cheapest 87 octane I can find, non ethanol if I can find it, and I add a can of injector cleaner once per year.

 

What about the minute posting on this thread?

 

My 2.7 gets roughly the same mpg as my built gt convertible mustang. The 0-60 times are noticeably different

 

Ya... 2080 miles a year... that's 94 gallons of gas... a whole $400 a year, or less than $10 a week

Yes, I have a 2.7 5-lug, but when I buy my next Toyota truck it will not have the 4 cylinder.

 

Can't be... everyone knows that Toyota is always playing catch-up on MPG and performance and handling

 

What parts did you put on it? I would like to do this to mine

 

It's a combination of simple bolt on mods that all work cooperatively very well together to make those nice gains without losing any gas mileage (last fill up was 25.6 mpg).

I did each mod one at a time.

1. Injen intake. $220





2. LCE long tube header $473



3. tooter II.VII intake manifold spacer $255



4. Removed power steering and Air Conditioning including all of their extra pulleys and idlers. (free)



5. Lightweight 16 inch alloy wheels with long lasting high mileage low rolling resistance 235/60 Yokohoma YK580 passenger car tires. $1,060

$2000 and you only get 1mpg better than I do while I roll in air-conditioned comfort with power steering?

$2000 will buy a lot of gas.

 

That mileage isn't under the best of conditions, Rich. My Taco is always fully loaded with 600-800 pounds of tools and material because it's used every day for work.

In just one year my truck completely paid for itself.

Same here. 24.3-24.5 is my average since April '12 when I opened the Fuelly account.
I can do better than 26 without resorting to hypermiling.

I've got the shell, and right now there's probably 20 gallons of Mobil-1 back there, along with a large tote loaded with tools, my wife's pop-up shelter, and misc other stuff.

 

I don't either. I just drive normally and coast downhill in gear like everyone else does.

Do you know if your shell helps aerodynamically? And is there a reason why you drive around with 80 quarts of oil?

All I know is that no matter how hard I drive this truck I don't think I have ever dropped below 16. Most the time I average 18-20. Singlecabguy is averaging great mileage with 35's on stock gearing. Sure, its not powerful but its also doesn't drop to 12-13mpg like a lot of v6's do as you start throwing armor and tires on them.

 

It really depends on how you drive your taco and how much armor you on.

 

I know there are a lot of variables but I live in probably one of the worse places for a 4banger and no matter how hard I push it through the mountains I normally come out between 16-18. My friends stock taco gets that on a good day.

 

I went from 12.8 on my old 4.7 Durango up to around 22 with my 2.7 Taco. Moving from 245/75r16s to 265/75s reduced that down to an even 20.

I still feel like I'm driving a Prius compared to that farkin' dodge.

 

It can go twice as fast, I'd still not change to a camry

 

I'm guessing 1 hell of a rear main leak

At 31 ounces a quart including the plastic container that's 155 pounds of oil, and I don't believe that could affect gas mileage in itself. It's like carrying around an extra passenger.
