Opening Access Doors wider?

Has anyone modified the Access cab extension doors to open wider, possibly something along the lines the Titans King cab is capable of. I know that it will entail a fair amount of work, I'm just wondering if anyone has seen any kits or custom mods in this direction.

 

Nice idea. Haven't seen it done though.

 

No one has heard or seen this before? I can't believe I'm the first to consider this.

 

To be honest, I've never seen the need to open them wider than they go.... I already get full unblocked access to the rear of the cab stock o.0

Dunno how much wider you could open them without it hitting the bed or scruffing againest something else.

Well, while it is certainly possible to live with the doors as they are, a wider opening would be handy. Maybe not the wider part so much as when the door is open you don't have a foot and a half of door keeping you away from the cab.

 

I still don't really see the point but... eh.

What I did think of today that would be cool though, is if the access doors were to slide open kinda like a minivan, just pop out the 7" or so and slide back to the bed (when the front is open of course). That way you could get to the back of the cab easier when parked next to someone or in your garage, ect. That would be useful to me, not swinging wider....

 

I do like that idea of sliding like a minivan door. A bit more work but if it has to all be done custom then why not?

 

That would be cool. There are lots of times that it's difficult to open the front and access doors because the car next to you hasn't left enough room to get around the access doors once they are open.

 

I concur- The sliding thing would be pretty nifty in those cases...but the opening past 90 degrees seems like it wouldn't be helpful- I can get into the truck except in the rare instance when I'm parked close to someone and can't open the door all the way.

It seems that the only way to get the door to open wider would be to have a double option hinge. the first option is like it is now, hinges at the level of the door frame. the 2nd option, maybe by releasing a lever - the door would slide out on 2 extension rods and the hinge pivot point would be away from the door frame and allow the door to swing back around fully parallel with the vehicle.

This would work best if the option 1 door swing was at its fullest opening position and then the lever is pulled for option 2. the extension rods would have to be very strong because of the door cantilever affect when opened fully in option 2 and the fact that kids will be swinging on the doors lol.

just guessing I think the rods would have to be 4 or 5 inches for the door to make it past the outer body panel point and swing fully around
