Come on up to the trout capital of Ga. I got Tyler (GAbassman) turnin into a trout man now. Our schedules haven't lined up right every time he's been here though. Next time he's up I'm gonna make it a point to make it work where I can go with him and show him how it's done  same for you!

That's a heck of a haul! In the northwest part of the state we have to keep up with the stocking schedule to have much luck. It's really rare to catch a native or even one more than a couple years old. Still fun though.

I just spent the day laying 20 pallets of sod for my brother. And only 3 of us. Oh my back!

Heck yeah! The fiance and I went to Cloudland Canyon a few months ago to camp and loved it. Me and my dad used to go to Moccasin and Wildcat Creek and wear out the trout, but I haven't been trout fishing in probably 10 years. We definitely need to schedule a trip up there.

Thanks! Yeah, luckily for us, we fish on a spot on the Okmulgee river where you've got to have a small 4wd to get there because some parts of the trails are only 5-6 feet across and it's muddy as hell. That keeps all the city folks and weekend warriors out lol. Definitely our secret jewel for shoal bass. The Okmulgee is 1 of only 2 or 3 rivers in the world that have shoal bass, so we definitely take advantage of it lol. Anytime y'all are in Butts Co., give me a shout and we'll go tear them up!

Sounds like it's beer thirty

I use about everything except live bait. Spinners, plugs, flies. Just whatever.

Heard that. He's kinda into fly/trout fishing and was just curious. We usually catch all our shoalies on rubber worms and the occasional plug and crank bait. Watermelon candy trick worms are definitely the go-to though.

I fly fish a little, but I've never caught anything real big on the fly. Biggest on the fly rod was like 16 or 17". We catch a lot of 19-22" fish on the spinning gear though. Which, for around here, is a good trout. That last one is the biggest I've personally seen come out of the Toccoa. 28", 11.2 lbs. I saw it come to the top and I said "Dang, good fish." Then it got closer and I really saw it and went OH CRAP...REALLY REALLY GOOD FISH! All we had were normal small trout nets...that didn't fit in those nets. He asked what he should do, I said run to the bank. He took off to the bank, and I reached in to net it and it was hanging halfway out. I said screw it, threw the net, and reached in and grabbed it by the tail while he grabbed it around the head and we wrestled it up. Haha. After that, we invested in some bigger nets.

I have missed a lot of fishing conversation. I'm trying my damnedest to get back to blue ridge to go fishing.
I may be an ass for saying this but this picture really bothers me. There is no reason to take this many bass. Have some respect for the waterway, the species, the sport of fishing and current and future fishermen by practicing catch and release. Conservation efforts such as the push for more anglers practicing catch and release ensures a larger number of better quality fish for years to come. Keeping fish isn't a bad thing when moderation is used. Just food for thought.

Now that I got off my soap box y'all had a really good day. I'm sure it was a blast. Please be considerate of the sport.

We usually do catch and release, but we were having a fish fry yesterday for like 50+ people, so we needed a lot of fish. The river we fish is currently overstocked anyway, so people are encouraged to keep what they catch right now, especially spots, which most of those in the picture are because spots are breeding with the rarer shoal bass and making too many hybrids. We're just doing our part at culling the spotted bass population, which IS encouraged by the GA DNR in order to keep the shoal bass population relatively high.

Yep. Keep every spot you catch. It's been a long time since I've kept a fish. Haven't felt like cookin em lately. I should start eating more fish.

Think I might try to go to rock creek this evening and try to catch a few. My dad went up there Friday and caught 17 In a couple hours, but nothing was bigger than 14".

Damn, that's still a lot! We usually eat some sort of fish every Saturday. My best friend's father-in-law has 2 ponds that we usually wear out crappie on every Saturday. We keep enough to eat, but throw everything else back. This weekend was an exception, since we were doing the fish fry, we had to keep everything.

Hey man I have no problem with keeping fish. Spots will over run a population. I'm glad that keeping this many fish is not a frequent occurrence. So carry on and let me know how yall caught em.

No problem and I understand! I would never keep that many shoalies. We catch 99% of ours on watermelon candy rubber worms. My favorite setup is the trick worm with a 1/16 or 1/8 weight, 1/0 or 2/0 'J' hook and a simple Carolina rig. Other folks wear them out on various crankbaits and plugs, but I'm a worm man lol
