So you think a go-cart is less safe than an R1 bike? :notsure:

To answer your question (comparing that gokart to an R1), I believe both have the potential to be equally as dangerous, so no I don't "think" one is more or less dangerous than the other, but any given accident could make one worse than the other, depending on many different scenarios...

One thing/example that stuck out to me was he buckled himself into the seat, with him not having a cage, if he started flipping/rolling he would be along for the whole ride and be beaten and broken to a pulp, if he was running fast enough. At least if he had a cage it would help protect from that. I personally think he'd probably be better off not buckling in without one. If it was me and had a platform to build one on and was gona put a wicked motor on it, I would want one for sure.

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
Yes, similar to the existing axial arrangements out there. Not sure why you say it "is not going to work", since they are on their 3rd Gen prototype and have had great results with the longevity of their "sliding metallic seals". I doubt they would invest 20 years of R&D if they weren't confident they could do it. I don't think these will be available for a few years, but still an innovative idea nonetheless.

Here's more info. about their seal challenges and advancements:
The Duke sliding seal arrangement is analogous in function to a ported 2-stroke or Wankel engine port sealing, allowing similar technologies to be applied. The Duke uses sliding metallic seals operating on an oil film. Materials used are those found in production road vehicles. The V3i engine has seals which are of a simple design and operate at modest contact stress and sliding velocities. Oil film calculations conducted support good nominal lubricating film thickness.

All V3i gasoline and Jet A1 testing to date (March 2012) has been completed with a single set of prototype seals which remain in good condition. These seals will be reassembled into an engine for further testing without modification or repair.
Duke challenges in seal development are much less than in a 2-stroke or in the Wankel engine due to lower sliding velocity and a flat monoplane sealing surface (Wankel has 3 seal faces, 1 curved, that meet at a corner, seals). So far, our sliding seal challenges are proving to be modest in reality.
