I have an '08 Tacoma that had the TRD CAI installed, but had to be removed for CA smog. For the past month I've been driving with the oem intake and noticed a huge difference in gas mileage and performance. My truck also seems to be getting worse in that it hesitates now, seems to slip on acceleration.

I'm unable to find a mechanic to re-install the TRD CAI because they say it's illegal and the shops are no longer allowed to install illegal parts. This include 4WheelParts in San Marcos who did the intitial install.

Does anyone know of a mechanic in the San Diego area willing to reinstall this for me?

Second option is to buy a "legal" air intake - any suggestions

Check this which I found from a quick TRD CAI install search: http://www.trdsparks.com/install/PTR05-35061inst.pdf

Intakes are easy work. Google: tacomaworld: TRD intake install

Edit: If it was a factory 2008 TRD intake should it not be legal to begin with??? No need to take it off I would think. Who said you had to remove it; the inspection station? I'd have gone somewhere else.

Thx everyone for the PDF's. I'll have to buy some tools to do this myself.
