I want to install Bilstein 5100's front and rear on my 2013 DCSB. I called my local truck specialty shop to get a quote. This is what they told me.

    Front Bilstein 5100 - $288
    Rear Bilstein 5100 - $220
    Labor to install - $320
    Alignment - $75

    Total - $903 + tax.

Doing a quick search on Downsouth Motorsports I can purchase the front/rear Bilsteins for $320 shipped so obviously they are extremely high. What do you think about their install pricing or is this something that someone can do in their garage? I am mechanically inclined but I have never done any suspension work. I want to have this installed but for $903 it seams extremely high to me.

    Your thoughts?

Way too much for that in my opinion. I just had Bilstein 5100's put on all 4 corners, Toytec adjustable coil-overs assembled and installed, Toytec diff drop, and Toytec 1.5" AAL and block installed today for $397 out the door. You maywant to shop around a little more, although I guess it depends some in where you live.

I assume you're reusing the stock coils up front. You could remove the front struts/coil assemblies and take them to a garage to have the springs swapped on to the billies, then put them in yourself. That way you're not messing with a loaded coil spring. If the garage charges more than $50 to swap the set, go somewhere else. With a wall mounted spring compressor, it takes a few minutes to swap each spring.

It's not hard to do, Try it for yourself. At least do the back. It won't take but 30 mn to do the back. My son and I installed a 3" Pro Comp lift with diff drop on my 2014 in less than 2 hours. Then went straight to the Toyota dealer and had it aligned. We did have an air impact.

A perfect time to dive in.

Changing shocks & struts is relatively EASY!!! You just need the right tools and you should have another person to help/assist. I only say that for a 'safety' point of view. If you get stuck or something happens - and you're alone - there's nobody to call for help. Take that for what its worth....

The coil assembly comes out of the truck relatively easy after jacking truck up and securing it with jackstands. Again, sometimes a 2nd person (and some persuasion) also helps. The hardest and most unsafe part is compressing the coils. You can rent spring compressors from your local auto parts store (if applicable). Again - having a second person is good to have while compressing the coils. There are lots of writeups on line on how to do this I'm sure.

OR - if you're uncomfortable with the 'spring compressing' part of it, call your local garages and ask them for a quote on only compressing the coils & installing the struts. You would take the coil/strut assembly off the truck and drive them down to the garage and have them compress coils & install both new struts and re-install/compress coils.

The rear shocks are simple. You don't even have to lift the truck up to do those. If your nuts aren't rusted & locked up...you're golden.

If you go with the bilstein bundle from DSMS, that alone will knock the parts price down from 508 to 320. The rears are a piece of cake and you can do those yourself in 15 minutes with basic hand tools and without jacking up the truck. So, you'd just be looking at front end labor + alignment. Shops around here charge 90 dollars per side, which I think is fair. If you can get it down to around 200 before alignment, that wouldn't be too absurd.

Or you could do it all yourself. As others have said, it isn't THAT hard.

I just installed 5100s on a buddies truck front and rear took about an hour and only charger him a bottle of crown royal, my advice is to find a friend that has space and tools and do it yourself it's easy and saves you a pretty penny

I have the Crown Royal! Road trip? :)

I purchased a set of 5100's with springs assembled to make the job a little easier. I think I am going to attempt this when they arrive next week.

It's not cheap to run a shop but if you can do the job then do it yourself. It's a very easy job to complete.

 That is CHEAP. Alignments alone usually run 80-100 bucks (around here). I wouldn't pass up that deal. You can do the rears yourself. Ask for a requote of just front billies, tire mount and alignment. Every dollar counts. That's mod money

I think it was 50 to mount tires, 40 for rear install, 80 for front install, and 80 for alignment.

Wow, still a good deal. Lift shop I went to to have my front end done wanted 90 bucks per side ($180). Just for the front end. Tire price is really good too. Even discount tire charges 20 bucks per tire ($80).
