Currently they do not make a .308 free float, not sure if they will. The only companies I know of that make nice free float for .308 are centurion arms (CMR .308) and Daniel Defense, Troy (personally not a huge fan), JP,

The thing I dont like about a riser is the further it is above the barrel the less accurate at different yardage, more adjusting involved in sighting. My first AR is a DPMS with a carry handle. Mounting the optic on it I was continually missing the bulls eye anywhere closer or further than 100 yrds (100yrds was my sighted in range). If you can take off the fixed sight I would go that route.
Things greatly improved when I got my LMT with a rail system and the Comp M4 is dead nuts with standard adjusting for drop of the bullet which you have to do anyhow(obviously).

OK so not nearly as high dollar or top of the line by any means, but special to me nonetheless, I finished my "truck gun" this week. I milled my 80% on Tuesday evening and assembled my upper and lower. First AR build...boy this shits easy! Just need a muzzle device now and I will be ready to rock!

 

LMT makes the monolithic upper receiver, the forend and receiver are all one piece. I think he's just looking for a rail for his .308. I'm actually doing the same. Not looking for a monolithic platform unless I end up with a MEGA mkm or something.

Also keymod is the future of modular assemblies and it's very much worth getting. So much easier to mount rail sections and stuff. I'm probably going to end up calling PWS and trying to get their .308 forend since it doesn't look like they sell them as a part.

 

The EoTech sights are not designed to be "lined up" with the front sight. They are designed to be shot as a "HUD" if you will where both eyes are open and you are only using the EoTech's projected reticle on the EoTech. That's why most folks run flip up sights when they are running a red dot or EoTech. Unless your EoTech is absolutely co-witnessed you're going to have issues.

Anytime a sight is not in-line with the barrel (which is every sight by the way) there will be an offset. The offset is the measured difference between the centerline of the bore and the aiming point of the sight (crosshair, red-dot, EoTech reticle, etc.).

The "accuracy" of the rifle is not inherently impacted by the offset - if you take the offset into consideration. Your statement that you were, "missing the bulls eye anywhere closer or further than 100 yrds (100yrds was my sighted in range)" is exactly what should happen unless you take into consideration your offset and adjust your aim based on known holdovers for the various ranges (distances) you are shooting.

If your rifle is sighted in for 100 yards and you shoot at 50 yards without adjusting your sight or holding over your bullet is not going to hit the bulls-eye...simple ballistics.

I would recommend getting to know your offset and how it impacts your shooting by first understanding the ballistics of the cartridge you are shooting and then by practical range time - learn where you need to holdover at various ranges and your shooting will drastically improve.

I actually looked at those when I ordered the kaktube...

 

I understand this, I wasnt sure if he did, which is why I stated it. I just prefer a closer to rail mount so you have less adjusting to do manually.

when using your Eotech keep the rear sight flipped down. wherever your red dot is pointed is where the bullet should impact. It shoulndt matter where the front sight post is. With my aimpoint I can shoot both right and left handed and not worry about "lining up the sights". I just put the dot on the target and send lead down range. Key phrase here "use one or the other, not both"

So I haven't posted in this thread but I figured I would throw this out there...


I pre ordered the new Ares Armor Harpe upper and was able to get mine on the first batch a few days ago. First impressions were that it was a solid upper and everything looks great including the Nickel Boron bolt/carrier. The only thing I didn't like was the little Ares logos which is truly a minor detail.
These uppers are their first run which includes the Mk-2 Effin A compensator.

So after a few rounds I was pretty much sold. I paid $497 for it and they are now $597. The compensator works great before even "tuning" it with screws and everything runs smoothly. I threw it on my CMMG lower and it meshed up perfect with not play at all.

If Ares Armor sounds familiar to you guys it is because they are the ones that the ATF raided over the poly 80% lowers. They have since been sent letters stating the the ATF F'ed up in a "my bad" letter. They are run by former Marines and based out of CA. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
