When I did my rear end I had 18's but I intentionally only used 16" of the shock's travel when I cycled it so I could switch to 16's later. And my shocks are pretty close to straight at droop but like Eric said they are leaned slightly forward at bump because they axle moves to the rear

Well i guess with the tundra axle i could go off the front now. And angle the shocks forward lile i see on a lotnof tacos.
Jd would there be benefits to do it that way

if you mount the shock off the front of the axle it will help prevent axle wrap. most trucks have to do it off the rear because the gas tank gets in the way. but since your going outside the frame you will be fine.

i dont think mounting them angling forward or backwards would matter, i would do it which ever way would save you move space, look good, and get the most travel.

do you have smooth bodies or bypasses?
i really dont think bypasses would fit even with a tundy axle without rubbing at full articulation. i know i have seen it done, but i dont think they fully flex their trucks. i have seen a few people throw a small notch in the frame.
right now on the back of my truck with a stock axle, stock wheel with a 1.25 spacer at full articulation the tire rubs on the frame/bed cage.
and with tundy axles being 3 inches wider, and the shocks being 2.5 inches, man it will be a tight fit with any bypass tubes on that.

it will be interesting to say the least.

what back spacing do you have on your wheels juan?
    and any spacers?
just curious and thinking out loud more than anything

Hmm I hadn't even thought about that lol. Since you are going with a tundra axle you would be able to go outside the frame, but that is going to change the whole bed cage. I havent seen any bed cages made without a bender that have shocks outside the frame, time for research lol

mine are kinda like your planning, I think the slight tilt back helps the shock to absorb the impact in the direction the axle is compressing and without side loading the shock shaft as forward tilt would do.
also on compression and decompressing the shafts are pushing the axle forward and in the same direction the shackles and axle are cycling.
Compromising an inch or so of travel for proper handling is worth it granted it works as thought. Hah

I think you should just finish the tundra axle to install it with your re long travel. It's going to waste you a lot of time and money to install your long travel on the rear stock axle and swap over to a tundra. You already have the tundra axle at your house, so just get that bitch done!

It'll cost the same as doing it with your axle? You're just swapping axles?
