Just recieved a letter from Toyota. Wanted to post this incase someone didn't recieve one for some reason.

Certain 2012-13 Tacoma and certain 2012 RAV4 Vehicles.
    Brake Actuator Reprogramming
    IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL

    What is the condition?

The intergrated system providing enhanced vehicle control, including features like Anti-Lock Braking (ABS), Traction Control (TRAC), and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), can intermittently become inoperative and illuminate one or more warning lamp(s) due to an electrical circuit condition (Diagnostic Trouble Code C1428 will also be stored in the vehicle's self-diagnostic system). If the ABS, TRAC, and VSC functions become inoperative, this can increase the risk of a crash.

If these driver support systems are disabled, standard braking operation is fully functional.

    What will Toyota do?

Any authorized Toyota dealer will perform a software update to the Skid Control ECU at no charge to you.

i wonder what versions of the taco this applies to... i am pretty sure the TRD off road 4x4's have a different abs/vsc setup due to ATRAC.

Not sure, but if you have that year model, you should probably call and give them your VIN.

Mine is included, and I had been having problems with those lights coming on randomly, took it to the dealership a couple of times, and they couldn't figured it out, but sent all the info to Toyota.

    You're welcome.

I'm not sure either, What you see that I typed, is what is seen on the recall letter I recieved. It just said "certain" Tacomas and RAV4's etc.

But I believe it'd be worth a trip to the dealership to make sure of, it seems as tho, it's important from the letter.

I was just at the dealer today for an oil change and they told me about this. I didn't get a letter in the mail, didn't know anything about it. I was told the recall was for the actuator itself, and that it's a 2-3 hour job. Does this sound right?

Just had the recall software update done today.

Service Advisor at the dealer had docs showing that the recall was not yet available. Asked him to check again because the Toyota Owners website indicates that is is now active, and he found that it is available.

Braking seems a little more forceful now.

My 2013 Sport didn't pull up any recalls on the website. The downside of being on the other side of the globe is that I don't know when or if I'll get a letter to let my folks know not to drive my truck unless it's going to the dealer for the service.

Steve, just tell them to keep an eye on the warning lights (ABS, Brake & VSC) & if they do go on to be careful when braking. Shutting it off & then on again should reset it. But, if they do see any warning lights to take it to the dealer ASAP. Hope that helps.:)
