I dont think that will break a u-joint imo. I have never had that happen on any of my trucks (doesnt mean it couldnt), auto or man. I dropped the clutch all the time in my 94 yota never had a problem...I would hope the drive line in the new tacos would be better and stronger than my 94.

I have a similar if not the same issue. mine seems to be rpm based and is a grinding sound/feeling at 1800 rpms. it started a few weeks ago and has gotten progressively worse. I am taking it to the dealer on monday since it happens enough now that i should be able to duplicate it. My neighbor is a mechanic and said the sound could be the tranny or somewhere is the driveshafts/rear end. I am just hoping toyota can figure it out and fix it.

Was that for me? If so, I'm picking my truck back up today. The shop said they greased things up and retightened every bolt for the suspension parts and driveline parts. They did find that my rear u-bolts were not tight. They say the vibe/shudder issue has greatly improved. We shall see.

I have the vibration in first gear only. As soon as it shifts to second , it is gone. It's not bad vibration by any means, but it's there and I can feel it.

I've noticed that the vibration also happens with much less than wot (less than 1/2 in some situations), and like JTech mentioned, happens most noticeably ~1500-2000 rpms. Also it seems more noticeable when turning.

Also noticed the 20-25 mph vibration--for those that have the initial shudder, check to see if yours vibrates slightly when cruising at 20-25 mph (mine does).

Perhaps the issues have to do with eachother? Any driveline experts?

I have the vibe and the clunk when stopping and taking off again. There is a TSB on the vibe where the trans mount is replaced. I might take it in and see what they say. I'm not too worried about it though.

How's the truck running? I plan on getting to my dealer if this was a fix for you.

It got better but after rotating my tires recently, the shudder is back. I'm going to get my tires rebalanced and then go from there. Why are many of us having this issue? City driving sucks because of this.
