Not gonna complain about my mpg recently. Last 2 tanks have been good.

Better than me, I'm only getting about 17.3... Any tips or secrets besides laying off the skinny pedal?

 

I am really light on the skinny, and use cruise control - lucky to get 17... Your truck is a freakishly efficient!!

 

Maybe it is just my cruise but it seems like it would make things worse. It slows down going down hill and and waits until it starts climbing to go WOT. That can't be very efficient. It was horrible with the supercharger as it will make the truck go full boost when it started climbing. I could keep the throttle modulated myself and keep it out of boost on everything but the biggest hills.

That being said,

My manual transmission extra cab with supercharger, 32's, and lift averaged @16 mpg everywhere.

My new to me same year auto double cab w/ stock tires and no supercharger or lift got 17.4mpg on the highway on my last trip.

I think the manual makes a pretty big difference!


I am sure it is listed somewhere but what kind of gauge/display is that you are running?

I have found the Cruise Control makes the mileage worse. I only use Cruise Control on long stretches of highway when I feel too lazy to do anything but steer.

Yes I'm still on stock gears. The Ultragauge is calibrated correctly. It really boils down to driving habits. The UG has been useful by displaying instantaneous MPG as well as throttle percentage. By keeping an eye on those I can drive in a way that is more effiecient. Also, it definitely helps that most of my day to day driving is on the freeway. I commute 30 miles each way to work each day. If I had a lot of around town driving I'm sure the numbers wouldn't be quite as good. But still....laying off the skinny pedal is the best way to get good mileage.

I only post this purely as a random FYI. I really don't have much concern for fuel economy with my truck. I obviously don't want to drive around at WOT from stop light to stop light all the time, but if I wanted something with good gas mileage I wouldn't be driving a truck. But for me, I really don't care if I'm getting 12mpg or 20mpg, unless its for reasons that point to something being wrong with the truck.

Yeah that's the difference right there, I have more in town driving, and a lot more warm up. Pretty sure you are all right about cruise control, I'll rethink that. Funny , this will make the first vehicle I've had which is worse on gas in cruise... My exploder and subi both did better.

About mpg, yes it is a truck , and yes I accept it will not be the most efficient... That doesn't mean we shouldn't squeeze as much as we can out of them ultra gauge in my future, will wait for a gb (hopefully).

Nah, I just work two blocks up on 500S. right across the street from the Chevron and above the Ski-N-See. I'm over by MM all the time.

 

Ok quick update on the "big change" that was supposed to happen. I had a full vinyl wrap in the works for the truck as part of a new partnership. It was supposed to be completed this week ahead of Cruise Moab. Unfortuantely the guy I was working with on the wrap has been a complete flake and it was becoming an extremely frustrating process so I pulled the plug on it yesterday. The whole wrap thing is still in the works, I'm just looking at other companies now so it could be a little while before it actually happens.

So sorry for a bunch of build-up with no results. Totally lame I know, but I can't say it was my fault. I will say the wrap design is pretty awesome, so I'm looking forward to getting it done soon.

 

Nice. The last wheeling trip the group I was with talked about wrapping. Interested to see how it does in the type of environment I wheel in. Would love to have it there in the rocks

It was seriously frustrating. Absolutely horrible customer service. Probably better this way since if there had been any issues it would have been a pain to get them resolved.

I guess I can spill the beans though. I should be finalizing contract details this next week with Tepui. I'll be a sales-rep/distributor for Tepui. So if anyone is needing tents or other Tepui products, let me help you out. I should be able to offer a bit of a discount on product.

And since who knows when the wrap will finally happen, here is the mockup of the design. Including the topper.

That wrap is cool. I really like the topo lines contained within the graphic.
