Hmmm. Fiberglass. Now would be a good time to throw some on, if I were to do that. Couple layers, nothing crazy, interesting. You may have given me an idea. I would have to throw some cardboard around the child seat anchors, just to make sure I can get it out if I need to. What to do?

 

Tin foil, or duct tApe covered w painters tape works well to not have it stick

 

Okay, the more I look at it, the unhappier I am with this. I need deep, for the subs, but I need more integrity than the back wall provides. What's on tomorrows agenda is, remove the top braces, cut a piece of wood to fill the top part of the box, above the crossbrace, and then glass the rest. I just don't like how it's shaping up right now, so gonna do a mid-build change.

Do you guys have a fiberglass fetish or something? It is absolutely not necessary with this type of box. I mean, it's your truck, but all I'm saying is that I've built countless enclosures using this method without fiberglass and have never had a problem with structural integrity or air leaks. Adding fiberglass is a waste of money and a huge waste of time, assuming that you're even applying it correctly. If you want more integrity, add a brace in the middle and go ape shit with those L brackets. That metal wall isn't going anywhere.

 

Okay, so I should be good to go? I'll try it your way, I've siliconed the hell out of the back wall seams, so air leaks aren't a worry, and I'll put back the braces I put in. I'll give it a try, but glassing isn't out of the equation.

 

Got the baffle on today, and test fit the subs. Sealed the baffle to the frame with silicone, made a mess, cleaned up, and then the wind and rain came. So that's as far as I got. Here's the pics.

16. It's in there good. Had to get some self-tapping screws for a few places, like along the bottom. Seems like it's stronger and thicker metal down there.

The only thing I would have done different is used hot glue over silicone, silicone can be very harmful to electronics...

Yes even when it's dry, It gives off an acid as it cures..

 

Huh, did not know that. I know it stinks as it cures, but I didn't know about the acid. It won't come into contact with the subs, do you think I'm safe?

Okay, so last build post, review posts to follow at a later date.

Got the subs mounted and wired into 4ohms.

Then came time to wire the little powerhouse that will drive these bad boys. The Alpine PDX-M12. Mine came with a birth sheet of 1246w. Good enough for me. Let's see what it looks like with the pass. seat out.

Pardon my finger. Anyways, with my Weathertech mats, it pulls a "now you see me now you don't" routine. With the back mat in, it totally covers the face of the amp, and with the seat in it's usual position, you'd never know it was there. I secured it to the carpet with two 3x5" sections of industrial velcro. It's not going anywhere unless you want it to. I had to move it a couple times, and it's on good.

Now, onto the bass. I'm McLOVIN' it! I have the gains at about 3/4, and no bass boost on the deck, and it shakes the mirrors, and rattles the stuff I need to get sound deadened. I'm impressed, and they're not even broken in yet. If I get crazy, and decide to carpet the box or something, I'll have to get back there again, otherwise I'm done.

So, I can't stop listening to these subs. They sound so nice. I just played "Celebration Day" ALAC files on them, and Kashmir has never sounded so rich and full. It's just a treat. Much better than 10's. 10's are easier, but putting in the work with the cutting and the dremel, I've gotten some sweet sounds out of my truck, and the subs aren't even broken in yet. Can't wait to hear them smooth out.

I should have my 1800wrms amps in by the end of next week. Should toss one in and see how you like it
