    I have a few mods
    I have a question on the older P/Us, did all of the pre 1985 4x4s all have the solid axle up front? I know that '85 was the last year they had the solid axles available for them. ive been thinking about getting one to have as a dedicated trail rig I can thrash on and not have to worry about damaging my not-paid-off prerunner lol

    Be careful that it does have a straight axle though. I've seen a lot of trucks on CL that claimed to be 84-85, but somehow had IFS. Also with the older ones like that, it's imperative that you actually crawl under the truck and make sure the frame isn't rotten and about to rust in two.

    yeah ive seen 85s with ifs. musta did a IFS swap... body rust is a must on those trucks though. but checking for frame rust is a no brainer

    of course that is a given lol, those be the first things id look at, make sure the frame isnt* rotten, and it actually had the solid axle on it. thats why im askin you guys and taking my time with this, dont want to rush into anything and screw myself over because of something that I over looked or completely missed

    I'm thinking it's more likely they swapped an 84-85 body onto a newer frame, probably due to rust, and didn't want to go the extra mile and SAS it in the process.

    Checking the frame for rust might be a no-brainer, but not a lot of people really want to lay on the ground and crawl under the truck to do it. especially if they are used to old domestic trucks. Frames rarely have any issues on those. The entire floor boards can be gone from rust with fenders made out of bondo, but the frame will be rust free. Old Yodas are almost the opposite. The body might have very little rust, but the frame will be rusted in two between the cab and the rear spring hanger, only hanging together by a half inch strip of rusty steel and dirt. :eek:

    of course ive learned my lesson on that lol, I did rush buying the truck just to get one :eek: and you're not bein an ass lol, its the truth haha. knowing what I know now, I wish i could go back and wait a little longer and get the right truck

    Don't we all. :D I know for my part, I wouldn't have bought my first two 4WDs (a B2 and and F150). I would have just went right to a Yota or a Heep (CJ/YJ/TJ). In fact, if I could go back and do it over, I wouldn't have had any of the full-sized trucks I've had.
