Yeah, sorry Lisa, we are in the 3rd year of a drought so we have been enjoying an early camping year. Clear skys and 70s during the day and 30's at night. Camped twice in January and 3 planned for this month.

This is my set up that I bought a few months ago and I still haven't taken it out. And I haven't gotten her off road sexy...yet.a01f263d-3d73-450e-92e4-a9d2e69017b9_zps_35b808196ae66cb2f1a21421dc5c4d0da0cdbdab.jpgDoes anyone know any good remote areas in the Central Valley, CA where I can just go out and set up a random camp? I'm looking for a place I can just drive out to and not worry about people, Rangers or anything.

These are a bit late, from last month's road trip into Utah. First time primitive camping and first time sleeping under the Softopper. A great experience! Perfect for cold weather camping- down to 20s at night but topper held up great against heavy winds and bitter cold!

Do you have any inside pics of your camper you could post up?
That looks like a nice area.

What's wrong with us Rangers? :p If you are in the southern end of the Central Valley, there are plenty of places I can recommend that are fairly private, and I promise I won't come harass you.

We're you using anything for heat? I'm planning on using the Softopper as sleeping cover and protection from the elements. If it can do 20* nights w/o any supplemental heat, we'll be golden.

Isn't sleeping in the bed of a truck cold as hell because you have all of that space under the bed leaking heat?

Can anyone recommend a good hatchet and air mattress? Last time we went camping our air mattress had a slow leak that resulted in us laying on the ground by the morning :(

I love this air mattress: http://www.autoanything.com/truck-tents/airbedz-lite-truck-bed-air-mattress

As for the warmth, I've been camping in the bed of my trucks ever since I could drive (the '77 in my sig pic). Never had a problem with being cold from as basic as a pillow and a few blankets to as "fancy" as I do now with the tent, mattress, and 0* rated sleeping bag.
