Read the rest of the thread... I grew up in the woods. I do know my animals.

If you didn't catch any of the sarcasm, anyone who doesn't grow up in the woods or hunt thinks any big cat in the nw is a mt Lion.

Oh! Sorry I didn't get back to your PM. I haven't yet. Still searching. I'm taking my time to make sure I get a straight frame. I've come across plenty, but they have all been messed in one way or another.

Went shed hunting again today. Found my first elk shed of the season plus a couple more deer sheds. The elk shed still had a little blood on the base. Fresh!

I'm partial to having the bobcats around. I don't see them often enough to really worry about them wreaking to much havoc on the fawns and elk calves. They are fun to watch and help keep the rodent population down in the fields. Coyotes on the other hand, get persecuted haha. I wouldn't mind having a bobcat pelt on the wall if the I start seeing enough of them though.

My parents have a few coyote pelts at the house. They feel great.

I don't know why, but there aren't as many cats on the dark side. Around here they are thick. Seems like I see as many cats as coyote's, and you can't spit in the woods without seeing lion sign. Seems like there are more cougars than deer sometimes. I haven't found any good sheds this year, got into my spots too late and saw four wheeler tracks all over...

The dark side has fewer of everything it seems like haha. If there where as many bobcats as coyotes around here I would definitely be bagging a couple. I still have yet to see a cougar. Its a good thing I suppose. Way to many of the damn things. You guys are starting to get wolves over there too, aren't you? That is a huge bummer. Sounds like someone got the jump on you. An excuse to go scout new spots?

The elk have definitely finally shed theirs. Found a deer skull with a notch cut in it to take the antlers. Means someone was on the place without permission.

Yeah, we're getting a couple good size packs of wolves close to Pendleton. Lots of "missing" dogs from campers, and they eat about 100 sheep a year and a couple dozen cattle, just in my county alone. They are diseased just like the Idaho wolves. Mt. Emily unit has the highest population density of cougars in Oregon, and maybe even in the world. It will be interesting to see how the cat population handles the competition from the wolves. We already know what happens to the elk and deer herds... Unfortunately the locals haven't gotten used to the wolves yet and often mistake them for coyotes. ;) Lots of "shoot, shovel, shutup" bumper stickers around here.

As far as sheds go... it's tough to find public land close by. The herds winter on or near the reservation and the natives don't like white guys poking around too much. Last time I was up there I got followed for several miles by natives. I let them follow me until it opened up enough I could let the taco eat... never saw them after that lol. I haven't been here long enough to get to know any of the ranchers yet, but I do have access to lots of primo land around John Day. I'll be over there next weekend chasing turkeys.
