Is it true that the 4cyl Tacoma can carry more in the bed than a 6cyl? If so, what's the reason behind it? I just found it odd.

    Simple.

Capacity = GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) - Curb Weight.

Curb Weight of a 4cyl is less than the V6.

But max GVWR is limited by springs, brakes, axles, etc... rather than engine power.

If it makes you feel better, the V6 has more towing capacity. :)

I agree on the towing capability of the v6. Whats the possible difference in the bed weight rating?

Read the post just above that bjmoose put up. 4cyl weighs less which equals more capacity. The tacoma chassis is rated to a certain max gvwr...engine does not matter except for the weight of the engine.

That's what I was trying to say.

The amount you can put in the bed is obtained by subtracting the empty weight of the truck from the GVWR which is the same for both 4cyl and V6 models.

That would be the difference in engine weights. A 4 cyl. weighs less than a 6 cyl.

The real brain buster is the Tundra... 4x4 DC 4.6L, payload 1320#, same as the four cylinder Tacoma.
