    Greetings,

It's time for a change. I'm moving away from Toyota to another manufacturer.

What price should I sell Taco for? It's 09', 4X4 Sport, Dblcab. Grey Metallic. It has 57k miles and like new condition (I took care of it), no accidents, clean title.

KBB not realistic on price. Their prices are way over the market.

If you want to make the most money, you'll sell it for KBB pricing. That's what it's there for. Plenty of people will buy it at KBB price, you may have to come down a little, but Toyotas are listed high on KBB for a reason. Cause they last. Also, why are you changing vehicle brands. I may only be 19, but from what I've seen in the automotive market, nothing beats a toyota

    But smmarine,

I paid like 27k for it brand new (not including tax/fees - it was in 2009 when purchased and the economy was bad and the dealers were more desperate to move inventory). KBB puts it now around $24-25k private sale, and around $22k dealer trade in its condition and low mileage! That's not realistic! This truck is an 09', it's five years old. I was thinking this thing is worth $15-$17.

KBB suggests I only lost a few thousand on a five-year-old truck...that can't be right.

And to answer your question, fuel prices going up so I'm permanently moving back to mid-sized sedans. I don't like the new Camry - it's ugly tail-lights and the ride is uncomfortable. Going for Honda Accord or Fusion. Accord looks more refined and good build quality and the Fusion has a comfortable ride. I more leaning to the Accord though.

I got 20K for my '07 Prerunner a year ago. 24k for your truck isn't out of line at all.

KBB says my 15 yr old truck is still worth 6-7k. Your truck is worth at least 20k, and I expect it will sell for that or more. It's your truck, but at least list it high and let someone bring you down. I've seen plenty of used tacomas sell for exactly KBB price

So you're basically saying rather than get the most for your investment you would rather screw yourself and take almost $10,000 less than what it's worth? You're going to make someone very happy with that philosophy.

Every tacoma in my area thats 2006-2008 goes for 20-25k regardless of package and size. Its insane, but thats why I bought mine so I can sell it to some retard for more than I paid(I only paid 17k)

If you really don't want the money I could use 10k haha. My Prerunner could use 4x4 and lockers and a lift and paint. So you could donate to the cause if you wanted haha. We're just trying to give some helpful advice, OP. The more money you get, the more you can put towards a new car

Ok. I go by you guy's wisdom and understanding of the market. :)

I shall list for $23.5k. I'll give the buyer that leverage from KBB since everything is factory original and wear-and-tear parts may have to be replaced later (tires, belts, hoses, brake pads, battery). It's low miles for its age and there's NO problems with the wear-and tear parts - can probably go past 100k miles. The tires I think can go another 20k miles though.

My bottom dollar is $23 even. So what you think?

If no sale, my bottom goes to $22. If no sale, I trade to dealer.

Some more picks. In great condition :D:

With the economy headed south in recent years used car values actually rose as people went used over new in an effort to save $$$. The tax assessed value of my Taco went up a couple times over the last 6 years. BTW - I sold a 2003 TRD DC Taco for $15k last year and it had over 100k on it. If you can't get $20k for yours something isn't right.

I would also beware of the reasoning that goes into swapping vehicles to save $$$ on fuel. Between losing money either selling or trading a vehicle, losing more to the dealers profit margin, and paying even more in delivery fees / sales tax / processing fees, etc etc etc... Most people lose thousands in the process and delude themselves into thinking that they have done themselves a favor because they are getting 5-10 mpg better. Do the math. In most cases it would take 7-10 years to recoup the money lost in changing vehicles even if gas went up to $4-5 per gallon. Only way to win the car cost / gas dilemma is to stick with the car you have and drive the wheels off of it. Cracks me up when somebody spends and extra $10-15k or more to get a hybrid so that they can save $1k or less a year on gas.

I agree with you, I here people at work saying they need to trade all the time, to get one better on gas.

    low mileage Toyota = money

the resale value on trucks (especially 4wd) have been insanely good. the 1st gens are even better than the 2nd but with your low miles (<12k a year) it's a cream-puff. and since you've taken care of it with no major problems the wear-and-tear- parts are negligible talking points

Edmunds lists dealer retail just a tick over 23k so for private that sounds about right. But Toyota's have been known to sell for well over regular market value.

If I was looking for a new truck I'd probably be driving to your house :D
