Yeah, its for rust, I guess toyota can't just use better steel for our frames or body

Actually, I think the body is pretty good at keeping away rust. My paint has little flecks missing all over the truck and there's only a couple rust spots on the roof that's under the paint, and they are really minor. The frames are another story. I actually found an article on here that toyota didn't make our frames, it was contracted out to another company, and it turns out they used inferior(cheap fucks) steel then reported to toyota. From what I read there was a lawsuit and toyota won, that's why they were good on buying trucks back or replacing the frame

The first gens are fully boxed till just after the front leaf spring perch, then it transitions to a c-channel frame. Is second gen different? I know a big problem is there are no real drain holes in the frames

My body itself only have a few surface rust spots on like the part if the bed that the bedliner doesn't cover and even at that are pintip sized. For the frame just gotta use the undercarriage wash when you can especially if you live in salt not to much you can do

Yeah, my paint is flaking in some spots, idk what to do about it, could refinish it, but it'd just rust again

Idc what vehicle it is, all paint will flake which will lead to body rust if you don't wax it like once a day haha. Who has time for that?

I heard the early 2nd gens were having frame rust probs. Toyota kept with the same company on the early 2nd gens. How bad is the rust? Surface or starting to chunk off?

Mine has small patches of surface rust on the frame. I'm not concerned. As long as I can tap on it with a hammer and it doesn't poke through I'm good haha. Although I want to pull my front skid and spray it, and maybe my LCAs as well. They seem to be rusting a little. I just haven't decided on a color haha

I believe the bad rust is the stuff that rusts out the insides first but you have a Florida truck so it can't be to bad.

Could always go black or try to accent it with other parts of your truck?

Yeah I'm not worried. It's been in florida is whole life. And I just can't decide what color to use haha. I've thought of chrome paint, black paint, or an actual color. I don't think I would like red. I'm gonna pull my bumper and flares off sometime too, they were painted by the previous owner to make the truck look better and they did a horrible job, so now it's all peeling

Yeah I wouldn't go red on a red truck. What are you gonna use to paint the bumper and flares with and are the flares plastic or fiberglass?
