Former Marine, El Toro and 29 Stumps. Thought this was about which branch to serve and had to re-read the initial post...

I don't see Air National Guard on your poll. It is unfortunate that the Air Guard isnt more well known. It would be the safest way to serve not only your country but also your state. My parents were in the Air Force and Air Guard. Neither one ever regretted their 20+ years in.

I originally wanted to be a coastie but he wait for reservists was 2 years soooooo I found my way in the Corps. It all depends on how intense you prefer to serve. Not enough people truly care to serve IMHO. They see it as a way to pay for school, get 3 hots and a cot, etc.

A big, BIG reason as to why I sent my med prescreen stuff down via the Marine Corps is because of this exact reason.

If I'm going to be on the front line with people, I don't want to be dug in next to someone who is there because he didnt feel like paying off school debts.

As a side note, I had my stuff sent down more than 2 weeks ago to MEPS and haven't heard shit yet. Guess I get to play hurry up and wait even when I haven't even sworn in yet!

Thank you:thumbsup: It's amazing what a simple thank you every once in a while will do. Waking up at 0500 and working until 1700 every day for months on end is exhausting and a simple "Are you in the military? Thanks for everything you do!" is all it takes for a refresher that'll pick you up for another few feeks.

I make sure I thank vets, especially the older WW2/Vietnam guys, every chance I get. I was in uniform with my 1st Infantry Division combat patch and ran into an old guy who stopped me and asked if I went to Iraq with the Big Red One. I told him I had and after a short conversation found out he had been knocking Nazis out of their jackboots all over the Germany wearing the same patch I was. It was awesome to connect with a stranger like that with generations separating us. I thanked him before we went our own ways and you can see the genuine appreciation in his face. One of my best moments since I enlisted. Reminded me of my grandfather, a WW2 vet, who passed away when I was in basic :(

    ^Great story^
I have always regretted not going into the Army when I was younger. Short version is ~medical condition kept me out.
You guys and gals always have my highest respect and gratitude.
