all i think it does is add some sort of box that makes it look cooler i guess.. then again we know that everybody here will buy anything with TRD on it :p

Yeah it pulls in cold air rather than warm air of the engine bay. I'm not sure about the TRD but it could use a better filter?
I believe its the same for all Tacoma's in general. Correct me if I'm wrong but could you theoretically put a CAI filter into our stock box to gain better airflow while keeping it a true CAI? I know the filters let in dust I was just curious

TRD is just bigger and has better airflow . For 2gens there are specific intake and exhaust mods that can improve HP and MPG, and most are cheap, like deleting the 2nd air filter on 2nd gens. I did the deck plate mod on my 99, and it's been proven to add 9hp on the 3.4 and 5hp on the 2.7. No known "CAI", which is usually improperly named in itself, is proven to make any HP or MPG changes without tuning the computer for it

that seems to be the general consensus on here ive gathered... although they let in more ai they do that by letting more crap in... but at the same time im keeping my eye out for a cheapo TRD oiled one, i like reusables, just not ones that let more crap in than a dry one

You have the deck plate too? How's that been noticble power or noise? I Heard you can delete the elbow on our intake system to gain a HP or 2 idk?

Huh, idk. I put a high flow AFE dry filter in mine. I want to relocate my intake inlet from fender well to front cowl. There's a thread on it on here

For the oiled ones how often do you have to oil them? I've never really looked into anything intake wise aside from the deckplate.

I'm never getting an oiled filter, meh. I'd do the deck plate mod though. 2ndary filter cut out on 2nd gens don't do anything for the V6, only 2.7l

Noise is awesome but only really notice it at WOT. There's a couple ways to do it, but deck plate is the easiest

I've seen this, it is cool, but still not a true snorkel. Any water over the hood means trouble
