Dang...if I had 24k to spend on a five year old truck I'd probably pay $5k more and buy a new one. But as a Tacoma owner I'm glad there are people out there who don't think the same.

Actually, the price of brand new Taco with the options/TRD packages I have runs you $33k MSRP. Don't forget inflation, new tech, (ehhh-hemmm, manufacturer lawsuits and recall costs), has bumped up the price of new autos.

So you're looking at 9k more for a new one. The dealer might give a discount, but tax, tags, processing, freight would bump it right back up.

Yep-used market for a prime Toyota 4X4 is good-you should have no problem selling! Hey I love Toyotas. My wife and I have had many but you can't go wrong with Hondas also.Except I don't care for their truck but that doesn't mean there is something wrong with it-just isn't my style. Since the 60's I have had great experiences with my Honda motorcycles.Good luck with your truck sale and your next purchase.

I had a 2010 that was almost identical to yours (DCLB, TRD Sport, etc). It got wrecked a couple of months ago and the insurance wrote me a check for just under $27,000. So, excuse the pun, but I think that price is right on the money. :D

Ok, now that I looked at your pictures, I see it's a little different; with a short bed and 4 wheel drive, but still.....well worth the money.

If I could come up with a way to get my lift and wheels off mine I would buy this truck... Hmmmm

I'd go with the KBB value, I bought a new toyota because the used ones around me had high miles and were still going to be the same monthly payment as a new one.

list it at the KBB value and settle down a little and both you and the buyer will feel like you got a deal.

ATO front skid (need more but icon's might fail if I hang anything else from my truck) All-Pro front bumper thanks to a good deal here and a pesky encounter with a rock or 20, total chaos uppers.
Good luck with whatever new vechicle you get!

While this is true for many people you also need to factor in how much/far you drive. Buying a jetta tdi wagon saved me over a $100 a month even factoring in the new car payment and insurance. But I get about 42-45 miles to the gallon with the diesel. Also I drive 110 round trip to work so if you work close by you will never see the savings.

I missed out on a 2008 Trd off-road 2 months with 79k, big toyota dealer had reduced price from 22k to 15,887 and it sold same day.

I would definitely try for your 23.5 just because of the amount of miles. Tacoma's usually go under the 20k once they have hit those higher miles. Thats why you may feel like its a bit overpriced but you are good! I would definitely only go as low or around the dealer trade in value price of what you were saying was 22k in kbb, but would try to stay away from trading it in because most places will give you the "auction" price and throw ya under the bus…..
    good luck!

Take it by Carmax. That will give you a good starting point. You can sell it to a private party for 15 - 20% over their offer or accept no less as a trade in from a dealer.

KBB is insane. Or currency inflation is insane. Since last week when I started this thread with you guys the KBB prices has risen.

Dealer trade-in for my truck in it's condition and low mileage is now 23k to 24.5k. Private party sale is 25k to 26.3k! WTH? I can't list this thing at >$25. I don't think anyone would buy for that price.

Time to start listing in autotrader though. I won't go by KBB but will now list at $24.1k (The extra 0.1k is a new battery the new owner gonna benefit from. The 5 yr old factory battery could no longer crank the truck). I will only bottom at 23.8k. I guess.

Toyota resale is a love/hate relationship. I hated that every owner was about 2-3k above bluebook for what I was looking for (3rd gen 4runner 5 speed) and there reasoning would always be "Its well taken care of, regular maintenance, and its a Toyota. They run FOREVER".

That's a crazy trade in! Take 23k and run, for 5 years that's a good loss. Consider it a lease of the truck Hahaha.

glad you listened to other members' reasoning here OP, anything <$20k would be suspicious as hell! people would be convinced you're trying to sell a lemon. Good luck with sale, and unless you need the money ASAP, don't short yourself! Dealer trade in should be your last resort if you don't mind the hassle of a private sale.
