I have been running regular motor oil in my 2006 Tacoma V-6 4.0L since I got it new, I now have about 185,000 miles and thinking of changing to synthetic oil, does anyone know of any issues this could cause?

Don't do it at this point in time. If it has worked for 185,000 miles why change what your truck has become accustomed to? Just don't do it.

Other than lowering your bank account, none. Also there will be no appreciable gain for the cost. The only benefit you will gain will be realized physiologically.

I am sure you can find a high mileage oil that isn't synthetic with all of the additive benefits for that many miles and hopefully many more!

Billies 5100's front set to 1.75 plus 1/4 taco lean spacer. Rears Billies plus AAL for a 2" leaf. 265/75/16 BGF's. Double din Kenwood stereo w/bluetooth and steering wheel controls and JBL speakers front & rear. Heavy duty battery. Billet grill blacked out. K&N air filter and MBRP cat-back. Just tuned it up new plugs and new front brake pads. Steel powered coated tailgate cap. Billet Grill painted black & factory roof racks. Oh new head lights thanks to toyota.
Most high mileage oil is a synthetic blend. I would use one of those but not go to full synthetic now. The difference in price between regular oil and high mileage oil is less then $5.00 worth the money.

Yeah like Mobile 1 There is no earthly need to use a syn. oil in any thing other that a race car. There are only maybe 3 full synthetic oils in the US the rest are blends including Mobile 1. The old 2.7 only had 285,000 on it when I sold it and I used the orange can of doom and what ever WalMart had on sale.

My 2003 Tacoma has run Mobil 1 since 1900 on the ODO. My 2014 will get the full synthetic at 5000 miles. My Tundra started on the Mobil 1 at 3000 miles.

I change the synthetics at 10,000 miles or 12 months. When it gets changed it is at 10000 or slightly above. Wouldn't do it any other way.

The 2003 has 156,000 miles on it now. Looking through the fill cap it is extremely clean. It consumes about a 1/4 of a quart in the 10000 mile interval. The determination on the interval change was made by extensive research, and laboratory analysis on the specific engines used oil.

If you have run only regular oil, don't change now.

Huh? If the dealership told me that, I'd consider taking my truck to a different one for service.

Lubrication is lubrication. 1 million miles or 100 it's all the same. If you have gone 185 k miles on Dino oil with no issues, I would just keep with it. I bet you could push 10k miles between oil changes if you changed out filters at 5k that is using Dino oil. I use Mobil1 synthetic, it works but the only reason I use it is distance between changes. I bet I could get 15-20k between changes if I changed filters out regularly. Would be nice to have full access to an oil lab to see when oil actually breaks down as opposed to the industry standard of every 3k miles,,,

I do 15K between oil changes but replace filter every 5K miles. I use Amsoil Super Synth. I sent a sample to Blackstone for analysis and the oil was still OK. They recommended going for another 5K and re-testing.

Thanks for all the input. Staying with regular oil. Just wanted to see if there was an advantage, but seems like not.

Don't want to start the entire threat over but I think its a good idea to switch to a High mileage oil now. Its a synthetic blend and cost a few dollars more. Why not use it??? I do in all my cars w/over 100k miles on them.

I'll be making the switch as soon as I use up all my freebies with ToyotaCare.
