    Double peak park?

I would've gone a little darker (close aperture or decrease shutter speed, not sure which you would do in this situation) so the eclipse was more identifiable instead of just being a light in the sky, if that makes sense.
I like that you included the foreground, though, 'cause yeah...all I got were moon photos the same as everyone else's :p

Sorry, resized for dial up :)

Yes, Double Peak Park in San Marcos. I have a few that were much darker, but with 28mm it was impossible to distinguish the moon was eclipsed. I could have fill flashed the tree, but I like night photography to still look like nighttime.

I'm really liking the low light abilities of these full frame camera's. Nice shots Peter!

What exactly are you referring to with the 1.4x or 2x?

I understand shooting the normal moon as if it were daylight, but not so much on the blood moon. I had to take it at a much slower shutter speed and iso which created a blur from the movement.

Nice, yeah that park has some awesome views for how easy it is to get there!

Same! It didn't come out very crisp for me because of that. I wanted to keep the ISO low to reduce the noise so my shutter speed was 2 seconds. Kinda long but it came out decently :p
    I believe he's referring to a 1.4x or 2x extender

    Opinion time.
Say you have about $1800 to spend.
    Would you buy;

    100-400 f/4.5-5.6L Canon
24-105 f/4L Canon refurb and some truck parts, leafs/coils.
All truck parts/new leafs, coils, one piece driveline, tires.

Or borrow $1200 from my wife and buy an older Toyota p/u that I can really wheel.

    I'm referring to a tele-converter.

In situations like this, shutter speed is more important that Aperture and ISO. So you kinda have to lower the aperture or up the ISO or both. If you were shooting professionally, a blurred image would be no good. One that's a bit grainy is OK. Make sense?

I like that you captured three shades. Kinda cool. And you're being creative in how you stabilized the camera.

I'm no stranger to astrophotography :) About 95% of the time the weather gets me. We were trying to photograph the varuna occultation to get more accurate timing on it, but we were rained out the whole night.

I think I upped the contrast to 50% on CS5, but didn't really mess with the exposure..

I love using a telescope that tracks.. Or just photographing the brightest object I know.. :p

The transit was a great event. I wish I had something like an AstroTrac that was capable of tracking. I've also looked at some Los Mandy stuff. I suppose the other way is to piggy back the camera except I'm pretty sure that's not gonna work so well :)

Piggybacking works pretty good actually. But you will probably need some counterweights.
