Yeah, the dealer did state that there are tolerances. Called Toyota yesterday, they claim one inch difference is maximum, and acceptable. I won't go down without a serious drawn out fight. As have been stated in many many posts, Toyota's leaf springs, even these 3/1 leaf packs, are inadequate and cheaply made. However, the trucks should never leave the factory with flat drivers leafs and nicely arched pass sides!

I posted a nice message on Toyota's Facebook wall today. Yeah, it was deleted immediately. I wasn't being rude but I guess they don't want people discussing their rear suspension short comings. I would go ahead and just lift my truck and be done with it but then it would affect the powertrain warranty. ughhhh

Thanks for info. At this point I don't feel like I am going to get anywhere with Toyota so I might as well do what I planned on doing down the road.

And your post is based on?......

A lift won't arbitrarily have any affect on your powertrain warranty.

Just concerned when they say, "Installation of non-Genuine Toyota Parts" isn't covered under powertrain warranty. Just worried if something were to happen then it would be blamed on non-genuine Toyota parts. I guess its just me being too cautious.

As far as the springs go ,Toyota has blessed us with them for about 19 years now, yeah crappy for sure but not lemon law worthy...

& I think he means that Toyota (or any other for that matter) is going to look for reasons NOT to honor or legitimize the owners complaint..

My 2013 access cab with 18,00km on it was 2 inches lower on the drivers side. The dealer put a new rear spring on the left side. Now it's only 1/2 an inch. Not happy with this at all.No such thing as almost right on an expensive item like this!

Returned from the dealer. Gary, the Toyota rep, was very easy to talk to. His partner and himself measured the leaf springs and the fender well measurements that I had done. As you can see in the attachment, Gary measured 1/4" difference. I saw that it was a 1/16" shy of 1/2", which is a bit less than the original measurements I took shortly after delivery (3/4"). Never the less, after a long discussion, Gary stated that he will be sending his findings to his engineering colleague in CA and I will know exactly what they will offer me when I go in for the first Toyota Care visit. We did talk about one idea in which I would purchase new leaf springs ("identical arch", according to the fine folks at General Spring in KS) and Toyota would cover the labor to install. I admit, if my gut proves right, I believe General's springs would be a better overall fit for the truck. But, I will wait and see what develops.

ps: Toyota claims that there can be a 1/2" variable in their springs, according to Gary. The young-sounding woman at Toyota's customer service claimed a one inch variable. Crap, how about a no inch tolerance, Toyota! Gee whiz!
Hope all this "crap" helps any of you that cares. And, just for the record, I will not be entertaining thoughts about the lemon law angle. Overall, my truck is excellent, and I just had the thing Opticoat Pro'd!!! Thanks all for your help and excellent responses. -Rob;)

    Exactly correct!

 Then you could have stated that. Your post was very vague. I wasn't sure what you were trying to infer. Thanks for clearing that up.

Glad to hear that they are working on this. I will say that only a 1/4 inch height difference could easily be attributed to weight distribution for sure. I remember when a lot of us were talking about "Taco lean" before I measured my truck, and just filling the tank from 1/4 to full brought my driver's side down about 1/4 of an inch, and that was AFTER the lift springs were installed.

I am quite curious what comes of this. So if I am reading the post correctly, they MAY be warranty-replacing your rear springs with a set from General Springs? I would assume that since they are electing to do this, that future issues would have to be covered as the repair would be authorized by Toyota. Interesting....

Interesting, indeed. We did not talk specifics concerning the warranty and such. I agree with you that Toyota is at least willing to come up with a reasonable compromise, at least that is the hope. Funny, the damn truck originally had a 3/4" lean, no question about it. I go to the dealer, have the truck parked in their huge garage bay, with level concrete floors, and while I can still see my Tacoma leaning some (with less than 1/4 tank of Mobil's finest), the truck proceeded to make me out to be a liar (to a degree). Safe to say, while you can visually see the difference in the space between the leafs and the helper, on each side, the measurements speak for themselves. The passenger side may have flattened out a bit in the 1300 miles I have driven it (empty bed the whole time), who knows! Case in point, if they are willing to cover the labor for springs of my choice, I will probably go with that, warranty or not. Thanks for your response. -Rob
