What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Got the Eibachs mounted up today, heavy on the bro-lean while I wait for my Dakars to come in. Too impatient, couldn't wait.

Can't wait to wheel again hopefully soon but probably won't happen till after August.

I want to do maintenance, here is the short list:

Timing belt
Front diff flush
Axle seals (leaking)
Transfer case flush
Manual trans Flush
Rear diff flush
Replacing clutch

Any other recommendations?

 

When you do the timing belt and water pump get the Aisin kit off rock auto. Same stuff you'd get from the dealer but way cheaper.

 

Since we're on the topic, know of a good writeup? I know for a fact mine hasn't been done since at least 160k (when my dad bought it) and I'm going on 250k now...

 

Not really it's fairly straight forward. For the most part. I know I read through a few write ups but not sure which ones. I will say the hardest thing was replacing the tensioner. Had to take the a/c compressor loose to change it. Which if your going on that high of mileage make sure you change everything.

 

What all comes in the kit from rockauto? I haven't done much reading on it since I haven't had the time or the place to knock this out but it's something I want to do soon now that I have a garage.

I have been dding my truck for almost 3 years and the sway bar has been off for 2.5 years of that, I stopped noticing or caring after 1 day (was on stock springs and 5100, now I have eibachs). If you plan on weeling your truck Take that sucker off and throw it away. Especially if you are going to Moab! You want every shitty inch of articulation your ifs can give.

 

my truck flexes out in a heartbeat and rides like hell.. so ur thinking if i take it off it will help both??

 

haha ya, just curious how long does the stock set up really last? i have about 82k miles..

 

I ran mine till my rear springs broke and my front coils are so shot that I have about an inch before I hit the lower bumps. Truck still drives fine (sway still on) but my front sits lowww. At 185k.

 

This makes me want to color match my flares

Why'd they shrink the flares and make them black on later models? I like the 95-97 flares

 

I don't think a lot of 95-97s even come with flares

 

The 01-04 flares are actually a little larger than the rest.

I think the 95-97 flares came in two sizes. That little chrome strip for 2WD models and the larger black ones for 4x4 and TRD models. I could be wrong on that though.

Either way, I need to paint my flares - they are totally faded. Black would be easiest and cheapest but I've been wavering for years on color matching them.
