ok so my parents bought me a brand new silver streak 08 DC sport. I definately wasn't expecting it. Don't get me wrong I love the truck and the way it drives. A pretty big change from my 99 ext. cab chevy silverado Z71. I just have one problem with the new truck...the double cab. I've been debating on what i wanted from a few months and I was leaning for the AC instead of the DC. My parents kind of bought it themselves because it's what THEY like. I just don't like the look of the truck because it posesses too many SUV-like qualities. I also do not need a full size back seat. I'm downsizing to a tacoma because I love the trucks and need better mpg. This fall I'll be driving to college (about 30 miles away) a few days a week. I very rarely have more than one passenger. Usually just the girlfriend or my dog. My dad loves the truck and I'm thinking about letting him keep it and he said if the DC doesn't grow on me we'll get an AC. What do you guys think? Am I crazy for passing up this truck?

Some people prefer the Access Cab over the Double Cab and vice-versa. It's all personal preference and needs. If you don't think you need the extra room then just get the AC.

It's all just about your needs. Gas mileage will be the same. Do you need more bed space or more cab space? I had an access cab before and it the back seat was basically just a storage area where my DC is a lot more functional. I usually have the seats folded down so my dogs have a nice area to ride inside the truck. Just be glad you are lucky enough to have a nice truck.

If I didn't have a kid I would have got the AC. The back seats of the DC fold down for a quick romp on the side of the freeway, and if you take a long trip quick stops like that are nice.

To me the AC is the 2nd best looking truck on the road. :) There'll be times when you have a few others in there and will appreciate the room.

If you need a backseat...DC all the way...If you dont AC all the way...Whenever I look at the back of my truck I think who could actualy sit in here for a road trip???? I think they should of just maid a kick ass storage area and forgoten about those seats, there a joke...

Dude, your parents bought you a new truck. Just be happy you don't have a $500 a month truck payment like the rest of us do. Just enjoy the new free truck and quit complaining and being such a spoiled brat.

He's young, lets be nice. Either way you are going to college with a nice truck. About nine years ago I would have liked the cab space more than the bed. Well I guess it depends on the girl but......

    +1

Even though I was debating the between the 2 for a couple days as well, until I tried to sit in the back of the access cab. That's all it took.

I don't care for the double cabs. It just doesn't seem like a truck.

I will say that if my folks bought me a lime green triple cab, I would take it with no problem.

haha I was expecting the spoiled brat thing and I definately see where you guys are coming from. Did I mention I got a scholarship and my parents aren't paying for my college? Also, I never even asked for a new truck. I actually wanted a slightly used AC TRD sport or off road. My dad's a spur of the moment buyer and before I knew it I had a truck. So I actually want to save my parents the money because I couldn't care less about a new one. I actually feel more comfortable with a used one. I'm still looking for a 06/07 AC TRD sport or off road so who knows. I'll keep you guys posted.

my 83 suburban was a chick magnet in college

the AC is better looking, but trust me...you will learn to love the DC

Im a 33 y/o dr, no kids...wanted an AC, bought a DC LB and KNOW I made the right choice

When your parents have disposable income and choose to provide their children with a safe vehicle, why are they spoiled brats????? hate the game not the player....

Some people need to spend time in 3rd world countries and realize what life is really like. Seriously..complaining about a FREE truck your parents bought you. There are more important things in life to complain about...especially if you driving a whopping 30 miles to college! Grow up and don't choke on that silver spoon

Settle down...my '07 is $150.99 a month. I saved my money for a long, LONG time so I could have a huge down payment. I wanted a DC, but being 23 at the time of purchase, the 2.7L suited my insurance cost better than the 4.0L with the 6-speed would have.

Here's a question (that might draw fire from others); who's paying for the gas and payment? If it's your parents, I say stay with the DC for more than one reason:

    1) You can haul your friends around no problem, and make money off of the deal by charging them a flat fee.
    2) Look at the truck as a long-term item. These trucks WILL last a long time. If you have to pay nothing, this truck will serve you better when/if you have a child/family in the future than the AC would.
    3) SUV-looking or not, these DCs are brutal off road. Just take a look at lightmup's thread: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/7980-demello-sliders-saved-my-arrs.html

So the short of it comes down to whom it costs less. In my opinion, that person is you. I say keep the DC, and mod it until it doesn't look like an SUV to you...which shouldn't take long considering the DC is becoming more and more prevalent as the "go-to" truck in today's society. Just a 3" lift and some All-terrains or Mud-terrains and you're already better off than the average Tahoe or Explorer.
