theres a good possibility that you'll fire everything in the gun in a crisis situation regardless of whether or not you want to

its incredible what adrenaline can make you do without realizing youre even doing it

i still stand by my comments

I have two dogs... but if a criminal comes through my bedroom door, all bets are off. Don't care (I do, but not worth killing someone for) about the rest of the house, but come in my bedroom and it's down to him or me, and it will be him.

Yes, I will have to live with knowing I have taken a life. BUT, I will be alive.

i completely agree with your comments tiger! i have had some training in this as well.. done training and qualified on all weapons our local sheriffs office swat through our fire department. we run with them to provide ALS support thus a small group of us have trained with them as well. not to mention i frequent the PD shooting range several times a month and run drillls.

Just keep in mind to protect yourself legally as well. Justified use of force can come down to semantics and lawyers. You can use a higher level of force to protect human lives than material possesions.
Now if you do fire your weapon, put an extra bullet in the floor or the ceiling. When questioned, you can now say you fired a waning shot first, but the perp proceeded and you felt threatened thus forcing you to expend your bullets. They can't tell which bullet was fired first.

Personally, since I'm in Canada, guns are kinda a no-no, but I can improvise hand weapons and I've got a pretty nice collection of swords :D

    warning shots are a no-no

if you draw that weapon out you'd better be prepared to shoot to stop the threat

I think he is saying after you shoot them then fire and extra shot into the ceiling, that way you can lie and say you fired a warning shot and they kept coming so you had no choice but to shoot them

Warning shots are more likly to get you sued. If you had time to fire a "Warning shot", then your life was not in jepardy.

I haven't heard of someone getting sued successfully b/c they fired a warning shot, in fact I've heard the opposite.
I guess it ultimately comes down to whether the robber is going to sue you for shooting him and the courts actually let a dumb-ass case like that go through.

That's why he needs to go out in a body bag.

If I have to shoot, there will be no warning shot. I only have 8 - 10 feet from when I would consider shooting until the crum would get to me. A warning shot would give him time to get to me...so, it's a center mass shot.

i have a s&w m&p. i found that a good setup is a red dot scope with a magnifaction scope mounted in front of it. this allows for easy target acquisition, plus it gives you the ability to zoom in on long range targets

what about safety courses? isnt there a course that lets you learn what to do in a home defense scenario? that seems like to me the best way to learn how to properly defend your home

Only course I know of would be thru the local PD. Or military. Tigerfan put it best, in which, If your not trained, call 911, and secure your self and loved ones in your room. Every fammilly should have an emergency plan for various instances. Fire. Break in. etc. For example, In an Break in, my Wife stays in the Master bedroom with the AR, and calls 911, and I clear the house.

that souds like a good idea. i mean, where i live the nearest police station is like 3 miles from my house. it wouldnt take them long to get there, but the reason why i posted this thread was because im looking for a way to help protect my family until the cops get there. we have been having more and more instances where peoples homes are getting broke into up here. alot of people in my neighborhood own guns, infact my neighbor is a cop and even he suggested that we get a firearm just in case. so im not planning on going special ops on anybody trying to break in but i would like the peace of mind that a firearm brings.

I think you're missing my point, my "warning shot" would be fired after the fact, simply, to cover my bases. I could say I had no intention of shooting, simply to scare him away, so I fired a warning shot with him 15-20 ft away. He proceeded closer so I shot @ 8-10ft because at that point I felt my life was threatened.

I'm not really debating the need/correctness for a warning shot. I'm just making a suggestion to help protect you legally.

Just keep in mind that having a firearm doesnt make you safe. You need to practice practice practice. Then, practice. You need to know how to use the weapon, safties, how to clear it, etc. Useing the weapon should be as easy as picking your nose.

Instead of a warning shot, pee your pants. Nothing else in the world tells a Jury you were scared for your life more than pissed pants.

oh yeah definitely. the gun is only as good as the person using it. i will probly be taking some classes on how to do room clearing and and all that after i get a gun most likely. an AR or some semi auto gun of the sort would probly be my best bet on that

Actually, for clearing your home, a pistol is best. Read what Tigerfan posted. When/if I have to clear my house, I use my G26, and keep it close to me.
