Doesn't anybody use toilet paper anymore? Just saying nobody has listed "toilet paper". Nothing beats toilet paper for what toilet paper does:D

All I need is about 3 to 4 gallons of gas to get me far enough inland in the event of another mandatory hurricane evacuation. Had to evacuate for Sandy and Irene the last two years.

I always have TP in the truck for emergencies, LOL. Also have tire plugs, some tools, flashlights, hose clamps, hoses, tape, rain gear, sleeping bag, usually a fishing rod and some fillet knives.

I have 2 suggestions. A nice alternative to the wilderness wash is wipes. We use them in the military from time to time, and you don't have to worry about a bottle of liquid exploding in your bag.

Firearms! I only saw one mention of firearms. Consider picking up a little .22 Ruger makes an awesome breakdown .22 that’d be great to keep around. Ammo is cheap (kinda hard to find right now) and its a versatile weapon. With a decent optic you can harvest small game easily and even big game in a pinch. If need be it could serve as a self defence option. Better than nothing!

Oh and one last thing. check out MSR miniworks water filters. they can filter over 2000 liters of water. super portable and easily cleaned! I use one for camping and swear by it.

Well I guess if others are making a list and someone might think its useful, this is what I have:

    In my truck:
Flashlights (big Maglite, Small Maglite, LED random one, and headlamp)
    Full set of screw drivers
    Pack rain cover
    Gas shut off wrench
    Golf umbrella
    Crow bar
    Emergency crank radio/light/weather radio combo
    Air compressor
    Power converter
    100' para-cord
Three tow straps (best one tops at 30,000 lbs)
    Cliff bars
    Gallon of water
    Extension cord and power strip
    Sling shot :)
    Ponchos (2)
    Books (2)
Full med kit with extra pain killers
    Full Change of clothes
    Snow Gloves
    Heavy jacket
    Sun glasses
    Water treatment iodine
    Fire Starter/flint
    Matches
    Lighter
    Chapstick
    Wipes
    Hand Sanitizer
    Handwarmers (~5)
    Axe
    Tomahawk
    Flares (3)
    Torque Wrench and sockets
    Durlast toolset
    Phone/iPod Chargers
    Earplugs
    Safety Glasses
    Sleeping Mask
    Blanket
    Airline Pillow
    Frisbee
    CB Radio
    Rags
    Fire Extinguisher
    Silicon glue
    Multi tools
    Tarp
    Couple of trash bags
    Maps of West Coast
    Compass and thermometer
My work boots (Hawthorne Smoke Jumpers) also Live in my truck with at least 2 pairs of extra socks
    and KNIVES EVERYWHERE

    In the grab bag:
    Camp stove/fuel
    Cook set/utensils
Full changes of clothes (3 at least)
    Winter gear
    Extra shoes
    Throw bag (swift water rescues)
    Ammo
    Shotgun
    5 gallon foldable water jug
    Food
    Another med kit
    Biodegradable soap
    Hammer (regular and rubber mallet)
    More knives
    Sleeping bag
    Small tent
    TP
    Wagbag (poop bag thing)
    flashlight
    100ft of utility rope
    Backpack
    Towel
    Another small cheapo tent
    Small stuff sacks
    Dry Sack
Small pelican case (for phone and a few other things)
Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving stuff, soaps, q-tips, etc.)
    Water bottles
    Few more nick-nacks that I can't remember...

    Dog's backpack:
    Extra Leash
    Rope
    Treats
    Water
    About 5 days of kibble
    Toy and Chewbone
    Small Blanket
    Extra Collar
    Collapsible bowl

I essentially took my normal "Car-Camping" list, and threw it together with old and cheap(ish) equipment. I didn't spend much money at all, just kind of accumulated it all. Most of this stuff is the same gear I use when I do go camping. I didn't use my backpacking list because I figured in a really oh-crap situation, the little bit of extra stuff and comfort would make one hell of a difference.

I figure I could go about a week with what I've got without any extra help (food and water being my limiting factors..) but if I found food I could go for a few months at least.

Also having trained and taught wilderness survival and having the confidence to be out on your own is a big part of it. Not to sound cocky at all, but attitude, tolerance, and patience is a HUGE part of survival.

And I apologize for not having a picture of my gear, but there is noway I'm pulling apart my truck for a pic of everything haha

Yeah, my mindset is to get home from wherever I am with what I can carry, not really to get out. If I would have to get out of my place the more populated areas just outside my region would already be toast. If I can drive, all the better, and I think here in northern Vermont the chances would be good to get where I need to. Just not counting on it. I have seen where one of the more likely scenarios would be a natural or man made EMP... most everyone would be walking.

Related note-my GF just totaled her Rav and stuff went flying a good bit. (Amazing how much bagel cream cheese can spread out in an accident...) For those that have lots of the listed item in the cab area, even in a bag, be sure to secure it. Anything loose can hurt!

    Happy Buggin'

I'm just impressed that he apparently has sheets and a mattress for his bug out bag. :D

I've got a bag for clothing, a bag of tools and food both at home & work. I'd have firearms except I SOLD ALL OF THEM when prices spiked. That said, I guess I'm screwed if I'm driving to or from someplace.
